What do you love most about Your City?
I love how eclectic it is! I’m brand new to Austin, a born and raised New Yorker, I finally made the leap to live my dream life in a new city that I’ve always felt connected to. I love how entrepreneurial it is, with so many creative businesses of all shapes and sizes. Some of my favorite brands started in Austin, everyone supports each other and especially supports local businesses. I’m also extremely outdoorsy and I love that I can hike, bike, run, swim, stand up paddle board and more but still be in the heart of a city with amazing food, nightlife, festivals, art and fashion. I definitely feel like I fit right in down here, more than I ever did in NYC.
Favorite breakfast meal & restaurant?
I love cooking breakfast, I generally only get to do it on the weekends but I make amazing egg dishes! When I’m not cooking myself, my favorite breakfast spot is El Alma. The food is amazing, and the micheladas are my favorite!
What are you doing at:
6:00 AM – working out, I wake up around 5am each day to train as I’m currently in the process of running a marathon on all 7 continents and ending with the North Pole marathon in April 2019 for the grand slam. I only have 2 continents left, Dublin in October and Marrakech in January.
10:00 AM – I’m one hour into my work day, my entire agency and team are in NYC so I start at 9am to keep NY hours. Since I’m up early anyway and don’t have a commute (I work from home now) I can be ready to go for video conferences starting at 9am. If I’m in NYC (I go back at for least 1 week a month) I’m just getting my work day started.
12:00 PM - Favorite Power Lunch spot/meal?
In Austin I often eat at home because my day is back to back and I barely have time to make it to the kitchen and back. If I do have time to have a lunch meeting, I really love Fresa’s. The bowls are fantastic. And if I’m being lazy Sap’s Thai is a quick easy and delicious option, they make a red pepper chili sauce in house and sell it in jars it’s so good!
7:00 PM - Hanging out with my boyfriend and our two dogs Rufus and Walter. They recently met for the first time because after my move and are still getting used to sharing us. Our nights are a scene straight out of the Stepbrothers movie. Some nights if we get out early we go for hikes in the Greenbelt or grab drinks with friends at Pinthouse around the corner from where we live. Life is much calmer here, when I go back to NYC it’s nonstop all day and night; drinks, dinners, late nights at the office. In Austin I’ve found it’s a bit easier to do things after work and still get home at a reasonable hour, but then again NYC is the city that never sleeps and you have to love it for that.
11:00 PM - Passed out. I wake up super early and still think of week days as school nights. I usually go to bed around 10 so I can wake up early. Training has made me much more disciplined with my sleep schedule.
What drink do you need to get through the day and at the end (and how many)?
I start every day with coffee, I just love the taste of it and it I try to drink it in a calm seated state whenever possible. It gives you a few zen moments in the morning to collect your thoughts for the day. Throughout the day I drink water endlessly. I’m always thirsty from training and find I get headaches if I don’t drink enough water. I often have water with nuun for a bit of flavor. At night if I’m out I’ll have a Tito’s and soda with a lime, but I don’t drink at home often unless friends are over. Admittedly I don’t drink alcohol much during the week, I have to get so much done each day it’s not worth being hungover and I’m a light weight these days.
Most used App/Favorite Instagram Account?
Most used app is probably Spotify, I use it on my phone, Alexa, computer, and in the car. I don’t take or have the time to look up artists or put playlists together, so I just leave it on shuffle all the time.
Favorite Instagram account – hmm not sure I could choose just one, I love Jimmy Chin’s posts, I worked with him on a North Face project once and was blown away by him and his photography. And also love gottolovethis, I have found so many amazing undiscovered places to visit from looking up where the photos are taken. For more style/design I really like Designlovefest and myinterior. I’m slightly obsessed with interior design and recently got to decorate my new Austin spot so I spend a lot of time pinteresting and image searching for inspiration.
What should everyone try at least once?
Everyone should try traveling solo and truly going on an adventure. I was nervous the first time, but I loved it! The freedom to do whatever you want to do whenever you want to do it is empowering. I also met so many new friends and people along the way, the conversations were different and inspiring because it’s not your usual group of friends who know you. I’ve since traveled all over the world by myself, and with others of course, but every once in a while, I make sure to take a solo trip for myself.
Where do you enjoy getting lost?
Everywhere! I love to travel (hence my 7 continents goal) and will get lost anywhere and everywhere I can. I actually have an extremely good sense of direction so its pretty rare I actually get lost but I love to wander with no direction or end goal. I find the most amazing, surprising things when I just go out the door and walk or run. It’s one of my favorite things to do.
