Nicole Katz first began her yoga practice 19 years ago in Iyengar’s tradition – renowned for his emphasis on alignment and yoga as a therapeutic aid. In the fall of 2005 Nicole moved to New York City to begin studying movement with Anne Bogart and the SITI Company. At SITI, Nicole studied Viewpoints, an approach that uses yoga as one of the vehicles to uncover emotion. In the fall of 2006, Nicole began teaching Movement at the New York Film Academy. She subsequently taught Movement at several other NY theatre schools, on a private basis for select theater companies and privately for actors.
While working with her students it became clear to her that we all carry our emotional histories as physical manifestations. Those manifestations, in the end, lead to habitual postures, which can lead to unnecessary injury and pain. She began creating yoga practices for her students in an effort to bring their bodies back into neutrally-aligned and pain free states. In the spring of 2007 Nicole received her first yoga-teaching certificate and has since gone on to specialize in Structural Yoga Therapy. Nicole was drawn specifically to SYT for its individualized diagnostic properties while still maintaining firm roots in the spiritual practice of all 8 limbs of yoga. As a long time practitioner herself, Nicole longed for a studio that could blend the benefits of private yoga instruction with the accessibility of the group structure and the restorative properties of a spa. She is ecstatic and grateful to offer her dream to you as Yoga 216.

My Action of the Day: PRACTICING “I AM” MEDITATIONS THROUGHOUT THE DAY. WHEN I FIND MYSELF HAVING A NEGATIVE THOUGHT LIKE “I AM SO STRESSED” I LET GO OF THAT THOUGHT AND EMPLOYEE THE OPPOSITE THOUGHT LIKE “I AM PEACEFUL AND PRESENT”. CHANGE YOUR PERSPECTIVE YOU CHANGE YOUR LIFE!
What do you love most about Your City?
FINDING NATURE IN IT. NOTHING MAKES A TREE OR A PARK OR THE SOUND OF A FOUNTAIN STAND OUT MORE THAN THE BACK DROP OF ALL THE HUSTLE AND BUSTLE!
Favorite breakfast meal & restaurant?
THIS IS SO SILLY BUT I AM A GRAY DOG GIRL FROM WAY BACK. I CAN GET A TRADITIONAL BREAKFAST (IE EGGS AND TOAST) BUT WILL ALL MY FUNNY GLUTEN FREE ALMOND MILK NEEDS MET AND ITS CAUSAL NO RESO AND NO LINE (WHEN YOU GET THERE AS EARLY AS I DO WITH 2 LITTLE ONES ;))
What are you doing at:
6:00 AM – HAVING MY SOLO MEDITATION MOMENT AND FIRST CUP OF COFFEE OF THE DAY. I HAVE DISCOVERED IT’S REALLY IMPORTANT FOR ME TO HAVE A SOME TIME OF SOLITUDE TO SET MY INTENTION FOR THE DAY AND REALLY BE HAPPY AND PRESENT FOR MY FAMILY
10:00 AM - THIS IS GO TIME! I HAVE JUST FINISHED MY 30 MIN POWER MOVEMENT MOMENT WHILE THE BABY IS SLEEPING AND NOW I’M RUNNING TO GET EVERYONE READY TO EITHER LEAVE FOR ERRANDS OR GET MOMMY OFF TO WORK
12:00 PM - Favorite Lunch spot/meal?
I GET TERRI DELIVERED TO THE STUDIO ALMOST DAILY AT THE STUDIO. ITS FILLING CLEAN FOOD THAT ALLOWS ME TO BE SUSTAINED THROUGH A CRAZY TEACHING DAY AND NOT FEEL WEIGHED DOWN OR HUNGRY TWO HOURS LATER. I EAT THE VEGAN CESAR WRAP GLUTEN FREE LIKE ITS GOING OUT OF STYLE!
7:00 PM - ON MY IDEAL DAY THIS IS THE END OF MY DAY, TEACHING IS DONE AND I HAVE JUST PUT THE LITTLE ONES DOWN FOR THE NIGHT! I AM HAVING A GLASS OF WINE AND DINNER WITH HUBBY WHEN POSSIBLE, WE CALL IT A MINI DATE ;)
11:00 PM - I’VE BEEN ASLEEP FOR AN HOUR BY 11PM HAHA
What drink do you need to get through the day and at the end (and how many)?
I AM AT A SOLID 3 COFFEES A DAY AND I AM NOT ASHAMED OF IT! I AM A MOM OF TWO UNDER TWO AND I OWN A BUSINESS AND HAVE A HUBBY AND A HOME. THAT’S A LOT! MY FAVORITE IS MY MORNING DOUBLE OAT CAPPUCCINO THAT I MAKE FIRST THING. AT THE END OF THE DAY A GLASS OF WINE IS A LOVELY THING. MADE EVEN BETTER WHEN MY HUSBAND OR ONE OF MY GOOD GIRLFRIENDS IS THERE TOO! AND OF COURSE THERE IS WATER ALWAYS WATER WATER WATER ALL DAY

YOGA, OF COURSE YOGA. IT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE FOREVER. JOY YOU DIDN’T KNOW WAS POSSIBLE, IS SO VERY VERY POSSIBLE!
Where do you enjoy getting lost?
IN THE FOREST OR ON THE BEACH- THOSE PLACES WHERE NATURE IS SO MUCH BIGGER THAN US THAT I CAN’T HELP BUT FEEL THE STILLNESS IN MY BONES. BUT ON THE DAILY- IN BED AT HOME WITH BOTH KIDS AND MY HUBBY. MORNING SNUGGLE TIME IS THE BEST REMINDER OF WHAT WE’RE DOING IT ALL FOR!
