JEN PRINCE: Producer, Director, & Editor

Jen Prince is an independent filmmaker who hails from south Texas, where her love for music, theatre, movies and tableside guacamole began. Jen produced and co-edited the indie feature QUALITY PROBLEMS (Chris Mulkey, Mo Gaffney, Brooke Purdy), available on VOD, winner of Best Independent Spirit Feature at Sedona Film Festival, Best Feature at Women Texas Film Festival and Hell's Half Mile Festival, among other awards and critical acclaim. Jen recently produced the feature AND THEN THERE WAS EVE, (Tania Nolan, Karan Soni, Mary Holland, Rachel Crowl) together with Jhennifer Webberley (Metamorfic Productions), winner of a Jury Award at the 2017 Los Angeles Film Festival. She produced the micro budget award-winning indie- road feature, EVE OF UNDERSTANDING (Bellamy Young, Rebecca Lowman), distributed through Vanguard Cinema and screened at over twenty festivals worldwide. Jen is currently in post-production on her feature directorial debut, MILES UNDERWATER (2018), which received a Hometown Heroes grant from the Duplass Brothers/Seed&Spark and is a finalist for the Roy W. Dean Grant, teaming up again with the Metamorfic filmmakers who created Quality Problems. She is a graduate of the MFA Film Production Program at USC. She received her BFA in Acting and a BA in Liberal Arts in the Plan II Honors Program at the University of Texas at Austin. Jen has also worked in post-production television. Credits include the Emmy Awards, The Contender (Mark Burnett Prods), and The Amazing Race (CBS). Jen is a mother of four boys and loves trying to keep up with them and, at times, watching the grass grow.

Goal of the Day: Be present with my kids, be present to my work, get an international trailer edited for my indie feature, Quality Problems and make some food for my 4 year old's Halloween potluck tomorrow.

Thought of the Day: Wherever you go, there you are - you can only be you and the choices you've made and the cards you have been dealt - no need to apologize or pretend anything else.  Move forward from a place of personal power.

Action of the Day: Fuel up with good food - need to get my empty fridge some veggies and then squeeze in as much work as possible before the baby wakes up!  (showering might need to be tomorrow's action of the day)

What do you love most about Your City?

Los Angeles is a place anyone can make home.  There’s always someone weirder.  You really can be anyone you want to be here and find ‘your people.’  I love the energy of people chasing dreams.  I love the abundant art.  I love that nature is everywhere as well.

Favorite breakfast meal & restaurant?

I grew up in San Antonio, Texas.  So breakfast tacos are everything.  Homestate in Los Feliz area on Hollywood.  (though they now have additional locations!) has migas and breakfast tacos that are the closest thing I’ve found to home.

What are you doing at:

6:00 AM – Breastfeeding my baby while reading the news.

10:00 AM – Attending my bootcamp, FitHappensLA in Burbank with some of my filmmaking team and local friends.  It’s run by Brooke Purdy – writer/director, general awesome lady.  We meet M, T, Th, F.  On Wednesdays I try to catch some cinema at the Mommy and Me movie at the Los Feliz 3!

12:00 PM - Favorite Lunch spot/meal?

I’m usually home working.  If I am able to get out for lunch I aim to have sushi as often as I can (which isn’t often, so that helps $).  It’s fast and delicious – Sushi Yuzu is my favorite.

7:00 PM -  Kids soccer or baseball practice!

11:00 PM – Working or finally decompressing from the day.

What drink do you need to get through the day and at the end (and how many)?

Coffee.  Black.  Who’s counting?

Most used App/Favorite Instagram Account?

Most used App is Moxtra.  I use it with my producing partner to track all our projects.  It’s awesome.  Favorite Instagram Account? I really am trying to love instagram and I’m slow to catch on to why it’s amazing.  I’m more of a twitter girl.  Chrissie Tiegen makes me laugh.  And Ava Duvernay inspires me on the regular.

What should everyone try at least once?

Nude recreation.

Where do you enjoy getting lost?

A great book.
