Dr. Alissia Zenhausern, NMD, is a naturopathic physician and owner of NMD Wellness of Scottsdale. As a primary care physician, she is able to use both western and eastern medicine to optimize her patient’s health naturally. By using both forms of medicine, Dr. Zen is able to provide her patients with effective treatments for conditions including hormone imbalances, thyroid disorders, as well as gut disorders. She also provides supportive cancer care both during and after active cancer treatments to both improve her patient’s quality of life as well as improve their cancer prognosis. My Thought of the Day: I love that you asked this question because I honestly LOVE daily intentions. Each day I read a quote and make an intention related to that quote for the day. This was the quote I read this morning “Perfection is fear in fancy shoes and a mink coat” – Elizabeth Gilbert. I know cute right?! My intention for the day was to keep moving forward and not to let fear stand between me and my dreams.  

What do you love most about your city?

Well, besides sunshine year round, I love how active and happy the people of Scottsdale are. With amazing weather year round, there are always ways to get your health on! You can find me walking the dog or going on a run literally every day of the year. This might sound crazy, but I have to make my mental and physical health a priority EVERY SINGLE DAY. If I ask my patients to do so I should do so as well.

Favorite Breakfast meal and restaurant?

Hmm, this is a tough one! I’m more of a “ladies who lunch” gal than a breakfast girl. So for brunch my favorite spot is Arcadia Farms in Old Town Scottsdale, A) because OMG it’s like having lunch in a pottery barn and B) because their raspberry and goat cheese salad is to die for!  

What are you doing at

6:00am- Just finished my half an hour morning walk with my puppy Lula and just about to take a few moments to write in my gratitude journal before jumping under the shower and heading to work.

10:00am – Visiting with patients, answer their questions and preparing their treatment protocols to help them feel better sooner!

12:00pm- Favorite lunch spot/meal?

I often take a late lunch, because noon is the BEST time for patients to come and see their favorite naturopath J When I do get a moment to eat, I’m usually taking a moment to eat outside, literally anywhere. Just get me a few moments of sunshine.

7:00pm – Finishing some last minute emails and prepping for my patients the following day while also trying to have my nightly dinner dates with my fiancé. He is the best cook!

11:00pm – Definitely in bed getting my 8 hours of sleep. Sleep is the one thing I will not compromise on (well my fiancé might have a couple more…)

What drink do you need to get through the day and at the end? (and how many)?

Orgain Protein Shakes. With busy days and little time to eat, I always have an Orgain protein shake ready to go to fuel me during the day. Not only do I love supporting a company that produced a non- GMO, clean protein drink but I love knowing that the MD who originally developed the shakes for cancer patients, wants to help improve access to clean nutrition to all. @themodelsurgeon I LOVE HER! I’m in love with seeing her kick butt in the operating room during surgery while showing off her amazing skills. I’m a sucker for learning. I love following people who are educating and improving the world of medicine.

Favorite App: EWG’s Healthy Living.  If you don’t already have this app, I would highly recommend checking it out! The EWG (Environmental Worker’s Group), is an amazing organization here to provide you with the truth about environmental health and ways to eliminate harmful chemicals from your water, cosmetics, foods and even provides you a list with the top EWG verified products. 

What should everyone try at least once?

Put the phone down and step away slowly. Don’t get me wrong I love having immediate connections with my followers and my patients but sometimes it’s important to just take a moment to be in the present moment.

Where do you enjoy getting lost?

I love getting lost in nature. Okay, maybe not actually lost because I’m too much of a control freak to actually get lost BUT I do love letting go and just enjoying the beauty of nature.

My Deed of the Day: Making time to meet with naturopathic medical students to motivate and mentor them in ways to better their future as doctors.  

My Tip of the Day:  Make your health your number one priority TODAY, not tomorrow or in a few months but TODAY.
