My Goal of the Day: My goal of the day depends on the day. When I am in my office seeing patients, my goal is to help them lead more satisfying lives without troubling psychiatric symptoms or repetitive interpersonal conflicts. When writing, I also aim to do that, as well as counter what I consider to be some troubling trends in mental health treatment.

My Thought of the Day: If your family is driving you crazy, there is always a way to put a stop to it without just cutting them off. Doing so is not easy and the strategies that work best are not obvious, so if you need help, find a therapist familiar with family dynamics.

My Action of the Day: Helping others find a good balance between their own needs and those of the groups to which they belong.

Besides being the birthplace of rock’n’roll and just about the coolest city on earth, Memphis has all the advantages of a big city without all the traffic and congestion.

The Rendezvous, with the best dry barbeque ribs I’ve ever had.
