Mariana Plata is a child and adolescent clinical psychologist, writer, public speaker and educator. Her writing and public speaking focuses in helping parents raise a generation of more kind, empathetic, and socially aware children and teens. My Goal of the Day: Spread my message of awareness to as many people as I can.
My Thought of the Day: Be present. Wherever I am – whether it’s with my husband, on social media, on a call, or Facetime – be present.
My Action of the Day: Make time for me. Sometimes this looks like exercising at the beginning of the day, or making myself a proper meal while having a cyber-lunch with my mom, or simply squeezing an episode of my favorite show as my break. I often forget to walk away from my computer and make that time for me.
My Deed of the Day: Reaching out to a friend I haven’t talked to in a while.

What do you love most about Your City?
I’m originally from Panama, but recently moved to Miami, FL. I love how similar the vibe is to Panama. It makes me a little less homesick!
Favorite breakfast meal & restaurant?
Avocado toast, I really like the one at ALL DAY Miami.
What are you doing at:
6:00 AM – Sleeping. When it’s closer to 7 AM, I’m getting ready to go for my morning workout.
10:00 AM – Working on my latest article, answering emails or creating content for my social media.
12:00 PM - Favorite Lunch spot/meal?
It depends. Depending on how busy my day is, it can be anything from a quick salad or sandwich, to leftovers from our dinner the night before. I’m usually having lunch at home so I don’t break my working process.
7:00 PM - I’m either cooking or watching my husband cook. We take turns over the week to make it fair!
11:00 PM – Probably asleep! If not, watching one more episode on our current TV series. (We’re watching Mr. Robot right now. So good!)
What drink do you need to get through the day and at the end (and how many)?
Water. I have a refillable 24oz glass that I fill out 4-6 times a day.
Most used App/Favorite Instagram Account? Most used App is definitely Instagram. And favorite IG account, it’s too hard to pick just one so I’ll give you my current favorite three.
1. @praxispty – an account to inspire young Panamanians to get involved in politics.
2. @ocasia2018 – I am obsessed with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s behind-the-scenes IG account, I hope she continues to have time to give us a glimpse into what the decision-making world looks like!
3. @rachel.cargle – Rachel has helped me broaden my understanding of privilege and feminism so much. I love how she continues to spark conversation in her community and her fundraising project to provide therapy for black girls is truly inspiring.
What should everyone try at least once?
Go watch a movie by yourself.
Where do you enjoy getting lost?
In a good book!
