Ellen Vora, MD graduated from Columbia University medical school, received her B.A. in English from Yale University, and she’s a board-certified psychiatrist, medical acupuncturist, and yoga teacher. Dr. Vora takes a functional medicine approach to mental health–considering the whole person and addressing imbalance at the root, rather than reflexively prescribing medication to suppress symptoms. In addition to her private practice, Dr. Vora is also a writer, speaker, blogger and a consultant for two healthcare startups.
My Goal of the Day: Be available to make the contribution the world needs of me, all the while shifting from a place of fear to love.
My Thought of the Day: Each of us is here to make a unique contribution. Our job is to listen to that small whisper telling us what we’re here to do and then open up our channels to let greater forces work through us.
My Action of the Day: Try to get enough sleep, move my body at least a few minutes a day, eat real food, connect with people I love, constantly work on opening my heart, and listen to music in order to tap into divine energy that flows through me so I can be inspired and create.

What do you love most about Your City?
The walkability and that so many people I love live here.
Favorite breakfast meal & restaurant?
I like some combination of bacon, eggs, greens and avocado. Favorite restaurant is Hearth in NYC.
What are you doing at:
6:00 AM – My 3-year old is up and crawling on me. I attempt to stay asleep through the pandemonium while feeling guilty that I’m not awake to enjoy her.
10:00 AM – I’m seeing patients in the office, which is hard work but also an artistic expression and a flow state for me.
12:00 PM - Favorite Lunch spot/meal?
On a chilly, rainy fall day, I love a bowl of hot rice noodle chicken soup.
7:00 PM - I’m bathing my daughter, which is delightful and also a battle.
11:00 PM – An hour later than I plan to be in bed, I’m finally brushing my teeth and crawling into bed.
What drink do you need to get through the day and at the end (and how many)?
Nothing! As of the last 5 months, I’m caffeine-free, and as of the last month I’m also kombucha-free. If you had asked me a couple months ago, I would have said kombucha, which was a very expensive addiction. Now I just drink herbal tea and water.
