Caren Osten is a life coach and writer. She works with individuals and groups who seek to cultivate greater positivity, clarity and calm as they navigate life's daily stresses, challenges and shifts. Caren's workshops and presentations are rooted in the scientific study of optimal wellbeing, with a focus on building skills, harnessing strengths and centering awareness. A contributor to The New York Times, PsychologyToday.com and other magazines and websites, Caren writes about health and wellbeing, parenting, education and travel.
In addition to her training with Tal Ben-Shahar and the Wholebeing Institute, Caren has studied Mindfulness & Character Strengths in Coaching and MBSR (Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction). As an adjunct professor, she taught magazine writing at New York University’s Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute. This is me with my husband and our three children preparing for a family photo. Spending time with people you love and who love you is the number one predictor of happiness. For me, this photo expresses the texture and variety of emotions that exist among those we love. Here, we are fussing and caring, distracted and present, doing our own thing while coming together as a unit. Life is complicated and so is this photo.
A Day in My Life:
What do you love most about Your City?
The beautiful Manor Park that hugs the shoreline of the water and is a two-minute walk from our house. It is a magnificent spot in all types of weather, and I walk there almost daily with my dog, alone, family or friends.
Favorite breakfast meal & restaurant?
Fried eggs on toast with goat cheese, avocado and hot sauce. Made at home.
What are you doing at:
6:00 AM – Sleeping
10:00 AM - Some form of exercise—yoga, walking, tennis or Pilates usually.
12:00 PM - Favorite Lunch spot/meal?
My sunny kitchen; a homemade salad of shredded carrots, arugula, crumbled feta, and toasted almonds, dressed with the vinaigrette I learned to make from my mother.
7:00 PM - Dinner with my husband. We recently became “free birds” —aka parents with no kids living full-time at home. (Can you tell I don’t like the term “empty nester?”)
11:00 PM - snuggling in bed with a good book or watching TV with my guy. Most recently we’re watching “Money Heist."
What drink do you need to get through the day and at the end (and how many)?
Coffee in the morning, Water throughout the day, Green tea in the eve.
