Mark Van Lue, Executive Director for San Gabriel Valley Habitat for Humanity, has 20 years of experience in the Habitat organization. Mark started his Habitat career in 1999 as Construction Manager for Habitat for Humanity in South Bend, Indiana. In 2006, he moved to Americus, Georgia to accept the position of Director of Construction and Environmental Resources at Habitat for Humanity International, where he provided global support and oversight to Habitat’s construction operations. He also provided project management for Habitat’s disaster response team in the US Gulf Coast, and for high profile special event builds in the US and abroad. In 2007, he joined Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles as Vice President of Construction and Real Estate, and later moved to Chief Operating Officer. He has been in construction management and leadership roles for over 35 years. Raised in Indiana, Mark now lives with his wife, Laura, in Monrovia, California. His two grown daughters are married, and he has five grandchildren. Mark has been honored with the Clarence Jordan award for developing the Cornerstone Training Program, a hands-on construction skills training course, and the Lester M. Wolfson award for non-fiction writing. Mark has led Habitat build projects around the world, including India, Nepal, Viet Nam, Cambodia, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and others.

What do you love most about Your City? Diversity . . . in culture, geography, ethnicity. Los Angeles is an amazing place full of promise and possibility. Where else can you snow ski in the morning, and walk barefoot on the beach in the afternoon!
Favorite breakfast meal & restaurant?
Corned beef hash and eggs. I love a good sushi place!
What are you doing at:
6:00 AM – Rolling out of bed for another day. At work by 7am.
10:00 AM – I’m either in a meeting, visiting one of our build sites or retail locations, or hunkered down in my office doing project work.
12:00 PM - Favorite Lunch spot/meal?
Too often at my desk. I enjoy running out to a local restaurant, usually Mexican, Thai, or a deli. I tend to have many business meetings over lunch, which I dislike because I barely remember what I ate.
7:00 PM - Hopefully at home relaxing and giving treats to our cats. 2-3 days a week I am at evening meetings of some sort.
11:00 PM – Calling it a day.
What drink do you need to get through the day and at the end (and how many)?
2 cups of black coffee in the morning, sometimes a beer or glass of wine with dinner.
Most used App/Favorite Instagram Account?
Messenger and Safari. I’m not on Instagram.
What should everyone try at least once?
A Habitat for Humanity Global Village trip. It is simply life-changing.
Where do you enjoy getting lost?
In really good music (I have a very eclectic collection), and at a local market in (insert any foreign country here).
