Mark Ellwood: Author & President, Pace Productivity Inc

Mark Ellwood, president of Pace Productivity Inc, is an internationally known productivity consultant. His company shows organizations how their employees can gain an extra hour per day on their top priority activities. Educated at McGill University, he obtained a Bachelor of Commerce in 1978, specializing in Organizational Behavior. After working for ten years in product management at Procter & Gamble and Moore Business Forms, he began his own consulting practice in 1989. At that time, Mark invented the TimeCorder, a user-friendly device for tracking time spent on various activities. Clients use this user-friendly device to accurately measure their own results. The TimeCorder tracking system has been used by organizations in 31 countries around the globe.

In the community he was involved for many years with the Toronto Jaycees and was awarded a lifetime senatorship with Jaycees International. He founded the Inventors’ Alliance of Canada in 1993, and in 2007 co-founded the Revue Film Society to save a local movie theatre. Today he works as a volunteer consultant for Management Advisory Service, providing advice to non-profit organizations at no-charge. Mark has written two books.  “A Complete Waste of Time” combines humorous anecdotes with practical tips and “Cut the Glut of E-Mail” shows readers how to communicate more effectively. Mark Ellwood’s passionate mission is to give people an extra hour per day for the things that matter most.

What do you love most about Your City?

My city, Toronto is a place where you can explore diverse neighborhoods on foot and by bike.

Favorite breakfast meal & restaurant?

I go to the Sunrise Grill for an excellent western omelet at breakfast. And it’s only a 4-minute walk from my house.

What are you doing at:

6:00 AM – Just getting up, doing some weights to improve my squash game.

10:00 AM – Working on my productivity consulting business

12:00 PM - Favorite Power Lunch spot/meal?

I often play squash at lunch at the Toronto Athletic Club, 36 stories up. It’s when I’m at my peak.

7:00 PM - Spending time at home with family

11:00 PM – Doing some late night reading, or catching up on a couple of business projects

What drink do you need to get through the day and at the end (and how many)?

If it’s alcohol, I don’t drink at all. I just never got interested. So a tall cool glass of milk suits me fine.

Most used App/Favorite Instagram Account?

I don’t own a smart phone. But my favorite piece of technology is the one that I invented – the TimeCorder device that I lend out to employees to conduct corporate time studies.

What should everyone try at least once?

Everyone should try sending a note to someone that says, “Hi, I was just thinking of you.” Inevitably this will lead to lots more kindness.

Where do you enjoy getting lost?

I enjoy following hiking trails. I know that I won’t get completely lost, but I’m never quite sure what’s around the next corner.
