Nathan Cartwright is a Los Angeles-based, mixed media artist and acclaimed founder/curator for The Hive Gallery and Studios, in downtown Los Angeles (founded in 2005). His gallery is the oldest in the area and has been featured in numerous documentaries and magazines. As an artist, he has shown his work around the world, and is known for curating large festival style shows around the country as well as his studios in the Downtown LA Artwalk/Gallery Row-area.
What do you love most about Your City?
I love LA’s accessibility to nature and the wilds of our downtown environment. It makes me feel awake and aware and humble
Favorite breakfast meal & restaurant?
I eat oatmeal with peanut butter, nuts and berries everyday….but when I’m on vacation I try French toast from around the world.
What are you doing at:
6:00 AM – Deep REM Sleep
10:00 AM – Waking up and letting my dog in my room to jump up in bed with me
12:00 PM - Favorite Power Lunch spot/meal?
I like Juicing for lunch, it’s quick and healthy (usually I stop by Wild for their pre-made juices)
7:00 PM - Headed home from the Hive Gallery and on my way to take my dog, Bacon, out for a lil restroom break
11:00 PM – I’m usually making art at this time and streaming old films from the 80s
What drink do you need to get through the day and at the end (and how many)?
Kale and fresh veggies drink or good ol’ fashioned water

What should everyone try at least once?
To walk a different path, and look at the world as if you were an alien that just landed on the planet. This activates your artist eye and allows you to see thing freshly
