Graham Goodkind is the founder and Chairman of Frank, one of the UK's most respected and award-winning consumer PR consultancies, with offices in London, Manchester, Glasgow and Sydney. Prior to Frank, Graham was at the centre of the dotcom boom with another.com, a free web-based email service he started, which he successfully sold. He cut his teeth in the world of public relations at Lynne Franks PR, famous for being the inspiration for the TV series "Absolutely Fabulous", where he worked his way up from a trainee to Managing Director. These days, he combines his role at Frank with a portfolio career where he is a 'Dutch Uncle': a term for a new type of business advisor/non-exec who offers straight-talking advice without pulling any punches to educate, encourage, challenge and inspire CEOs and business leaders to achieve results that they did not think possible. He is also a Board Advisor to Green Square, a corporate finance advisory boutique, where he works with clients on the challenges and issues they face as they seek to grow and maximise the value of their business and ultimately seek a sale, merger or acquisition. He also has other board appointments in the not-for-profit sector.
What do you love most about Your City?
London is a great place if you make the effort. Otherwise it just seems a bit big and smelly. I love the opportunities it affords to lap up a bit of culture, particularly theatre. But I think the thing I most love is my visits to the Emirates Stadium to see my beloved Arsenal in action.
Favorite breakfast meal & restaurant?
I always look forward to breakfast meetings with my mentor at 5 Hertford Street where I normally have a poached egg with some bacon (and HP Sauce of course).
What are you doing at:
6:00 AM – sleeping. I get up at 6:33am.
10:00 AM – Unless I’ve got a whole day at one of the companies I work with then I’m usually dashing between meetings. Having gone plural I’m constantly on the go. If I am in somewhere like Frank, then I’m probably either chairing a board meeting with my fellow directors or involved in some mad cap brainstorm trying to come up with a great idea for a client. I love the creative and the commercial side of that business.
12:00 PM - Favorite Power Lunch spot/meal?
The Club at The Ivy / Sashimi followed by the cod (although their daily roasts are very tempting sometimes)
7:00 PM -
Dinner with my wife, Lisa. Although she’s vegan and I’m paleo so there’s not a lot of similarity in what we eat!
11:00 PM – Upstairs in the cinema at home playing FIFA online against people from across the world. I have worked on video game clients since I started in PR and even at my age, am still hooked!
What drink do you need to get through the day and at the end (and how many)?
2-3 strong expressos or black Americanos; 2-3 Diet Cokes; lots of water; maybe one or two glasses of wine a week (I really cut down on the alcohol earlier in the year and feel miles better for it).
Most used App/Favorite Instagram Account?
Waze / alecmonopoly
What should everyone try at least once?
Where do you enjoy getting lost?
On the golf course. Which is quite easy to do when I’m really spraying my shots about!
