Ryan Schneider is the Chief Brand Officer of Insomniac Games.
What do you love most about Your City?
There are so many ways I can answer this question! The weather. The beach. The Lakers and Dodgers. But I’m going to say it’s the Mexican food. I’ve traveled fairly extensively through my life and career. I think LA has the best Mexican food I’ve ever tasted, anywhere. (Tucson is in that conversation for me too though.)
Favorite breakfast meal & restaurant?
This is boring but it’s the eggs, bacon and pancakes combo at Corner Bakery in Sherman Oaks. Also known as “The Brown Place” by my three-year-old daughter. Sometimes she dresses up in her princess costumes and we walk there to eat together before I drive her to pre-school. So it’s less about the food itself and more about the experience of dining with little royalty!
What are you doing at:
6:00 AM – Most days I’m either in the pool or on my bike trainer using Zwift, trying to beat someone up a hill climb.
10:00 AM – Though I’ve been up for hours and working remotely, I’m settling into my desk at Insomniac and doing a quick triage assessment for the day. Things have been especially busy with our recent launch of Marvel’s Spider-Man on PlayStation 4. #shamelessplugs
12:00 PM - Favorite Power Lunch spot/meal?
I’ll usually eat at our on-campus commissary. But if I’m not there, you’ll often find me either at Tacos Casita el Carbon in Burbank or Casa Granada, also nearby the studio in Burbank.
7:00 PM - I’m home from work and spending family time with my wife, Stephanie, and kiddo. We admittedly let our daughter stay up a bit later so we can have more time with her before bed. Lately, our daughter has been standing on an unopened large package of paper towels as her “stage” to sing and dance as part of what she calls, “special performances.”
11:00 PM – Easiest answer of them all. I’m asleep! Up at 4:45-5 a.m. every day. Definitely a morning person!
What drink do you need to get through the day and at the end (and how many)?
I drink a lot of water. Probably at least 60 oz a day if I had to guess.
Most used App/Favorite Instagram Account?
I use the Training Peaks multisport planning and tracking app daily. I coach several age-group endurance sports athletes in addition to my career at Insomniac. The two worlds (video games and triathlon) surprisingly complement each other far more than I ever expected.
What should everyone try at least once?
Optimism! I’ve found that how you choose to see the world is true, whichever way you choose to so. Optimism and determination are a powerful duo.
Where do you enjoy getting lost?
This sounds weird, but I enjoy getting lost in full sight. That would be in a proper lap pool, where I’m staring at nothing but a black line beneath me in the middle of a pre-dawn workout. This is my zen time, and sometimes my clearest thoughts come from that active meditation space.
I’m also partial lately to web-swinging from building to building in a certain videogame. Seriously, if you’re not a game player, don’t knock it ‘til you try it!
