My Native Admission Statement: I’m a Registered Dietitian, Certified Personal Trainer and the owner and founder of Alix Turoff Nutrition, a virtual private nutrition practice dedicated to helping women heal their relationship with food through solid, scientific nutrition advice and practical strategies. My goal is to teach women that it IS possible to eat delicious food, drink cocktails, exercise because you enjoy it and live in a body that you’re proud of.

Bio: Alix Turoff is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and NASM Certified Personal Trainer and Indoor Cycling Instructor. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in 'Media, Culture and Communications' and 'Nutrition' from New York University and a Master's Degree in 'Clinical Nutrition' from New York University. She is also Nutritious Life Certified. Alix's private practice is 100% virtual. She offers one on one coaching and group programs. She is also a recipe creator, brand consultant, writer and contributor to various media outlets. Alix also has an active presence on social media where she regularly posts recipes, workouts, tips and videos. Her approach to nutrition and fitness is all about balance. She believes that it is possible to manage your weight and still enjoy a life of delicious food and cocktails. She promotes "flexible dieting" and helps women heal their relationship with food.

How did you get into the industry?

I became interested in nutrition because of my own experience with weight loss. After losing a substantial amount of weight at a young age, I developed an extremely poor body image and a slew of disordered eating behaviors to go along with it. I went to NYU to pursue journalism an quickly realized my passion was in nutrition and helping others avoid what I went through.

Any emerging industry trends?

Nutrition counselling is going online! Virtual practices have been made possible thanks to telehealth technology that allow us to see clients through HIPAA compliant platforms.

Any industry opportunities or challenges?

One of the biggest challenges that the nutrition industry faces right now is the lack of regulation around who can give nutrition advice. With the rise of the “influencer”, it seems like anyone and everyone is giving out nutrition advice that ranges from harmless and a little silly to downright dangerous! We have to be careful with who we’re listening to for health advice.

What's next for the Business in the near future?

I’m looking to expand my business beyond my 1:1 offerings so that I could help more women at affordable prices! I’m also planning more in person activities like retreats, lectures and cooking classes!

Your most difficult moment at the Business? (and what did you learn?)

The most difficult aspect of business for me has been delegating. Like most entrepreneurs, I have the tendency to be a control freak. But I’ve realized that I can’t do it all and if I want my business to grow, I need to be able to ask for help.

Career advice to those in your industry?

Be authentic to your message. There are so many viewpoints in the nutrition space and it’s easy to jump on what’s trending. Be yourself, people can see through it. Show up for your audience and clients every single day and provide tons of free value. You may not see an immediate ROI but serving others in and of itself is a reward. Financial rewards will come later.

What makes me the best version of myself?

Working out—I honestly think my life would fall apart if I didn’t exercise!

6:00 AM – Working out!

10:00 AM – At my desk, seeing clients or answering e-mails

My favorite lunch is a big chopped salad

7:00 PM - Prepping dinner as I listen to a Podcast

11:00 PM – Sleeping! I try to be in bed by 10 PM

What drink do you need to get through the day and at the end (and how many)?

Iced coffee (even in the winter)- probably 3 cups per day

Some days, it’s wine! Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand

Where do you enjoy getting lost?

In a good book! I love memoirs and non-fiction
