My Native Admission Statement: Arevik Karakhanyan is a founder of Healthy Life, LLC online company that is focused on helping individuals to achieve their long-term diet and weight goals. Despite the fact that the company is relatively new, she already had a chance to help many clients to find the right track to healthy eating. Arevik holds a baccalaureate degree in Nutrition and Dietetics with a minor in Statistics. She believes that one of the most important things in nutrition is being able to keep yourself up-to-date in all areas of the field. Because of her knowledge in statistics, she is able to think critically about the results of many published nutrition studies and use relevant information in her practice.
Healthy living is not her goal in life but rather a passion and hobby.
How did you get into the industry?
Since I was 16 years old, I have always been reading about the ways to follow a healthy lifestyle and eating. After I have learned some basic nutrition, I began to make changes to my diet and eating habits. I started to cook for myself since my mom’s meals were not always healthy, although she is an excellent cook! After a couple of months I have already noticed that the quality of my life has improved significantly; I got more energy and loved how I was feeling myself mentally and physically. I was fascinated how certain changes in the diet can improve our lives. That was a crucial point in my life at which I decided to formalize my knowledge and get a university degree in nutrition. At school I took many specialized subjects that had deepen my knowledge of the field. Since food studies are becoming more data driven nowadays, I decided to get a minor in statistics as well. While at school, I could not wait to graduate and start my own business to help people to discover all the benefits that healthy diet provides. After graduation I started a company and now I am making people’s dreams come true.
This is how I got into the industry.
Any emerging industry trends?
There are many trends in nutrition industry that are popular nowadays. One of them is “time restricted eating” that includes eating for 8 hours and then fast for 16 hours. Another trend that increases in popularity is nutrigenomics. It studies an interaction of genes and nutrients that is needed for creation of personalized diets based on genotypes with the help of machine learning and statistics. Even though there are many emerging trends, I still try to think critically and take them with a grain of salt.
What's next for the Business in the near future?
I have many business plans and one of them is opening a cafeteria with my own unique recipes.
Your most difficult moment at the Business?
When it is your first business you will be facing with many challenges at the beginning, but the one that is really frustrating is when your client is not ready to take real actions yet, even though he/she has all the resources for that.
I had several clients who wanted to lose weight and start eating healthy but after some time they gave up and found excuses to not follow the instructions. I have learned that nothing will motivate you and no one will help unless you realize that healthy eating is key to stronger body, clearer mind and happier life.
Ideal experience for a customer/client?
One of the benefits of my services is that I work with everyone individually and consider many aspects such as: client’s schedule, food preferences, budget and any other information they want to share with me before I create a healthy meal plan.
How do you motivate others?
I believe that we get motivated by real examples and stories. I follow a healthy lifestyle and I like to show that on my Instagram page. I post what I eat almost every day as well as share my personal healthy recipes so other people can watch, read, ask questions and learn from me.
I also educate my friends and clients regarding the food that they eat and suggest better options to choose from. I have a chat on my website where anyone can ask a question regarding their diet free of charge.
What do I do best?
I am a good representation of a nutrition coach that not only theoretically educates people, but also provides practical examples.
What makes me the best version of myself?
I am a very passionate person. I try to gravitate toward activities that make me happy, as I believe that one can achieve great success only with happiness.
