Bio: Eline van der Velden is the 2X award winning Actress/Writer/Director of the BBC Three series Miss Holland and founder of Particle6 Productions. She’s also known for her BBC Three street experiment videos Putting It Out ThereBBC Comedy Quickies and the Gender Bias Riddle which got 14M views. Her most recent series bring science and comedy together: Crazy Science.

How did you start the industry?

I was so keen to work in the film and television industry that I decided to attend a performing arts school in the UK when I was 14 years old. I went on to study Physics at university (because why not) and eventually started working in the film and television industry as an actor, writer, director and producer. After some time at Endemol and Makerschannel, I decided to set up on my own production company. It started out as a more niche science comedy production company, but we now make short-form digital content for tech companies and broadcasters like the BBC. We specialise in taking complicated topics and explaining them in easy to comprehend short-form videos.

Are there any emerging trends in your industry?

Yes! there are so many exciting things happening. For example, we recently produced a portrait mode campaign for Deliveroo, meaning we shot footage with an Arri Alexa camera flipped on its side. This format is increasingly popular for creating Facebook and Instagram adverts as they can cover the entire phone screen, unlike traditional landscape adverts.

What was your inspiration and vision for the business and your vision for Particle 6?

I wanted to create a place where a collective of creative people could make cool stuff. I am extremely eager to hire people who’ve made their own videos or stage plays. It says a lot about someone who can see an idea through to the end rather than just stopping at the moment of conception.

What's next for the Business in the near future?

We’re creating new shows all the time, both long-form and short-form. Short-form is still a growing sector and I really value it. If you can explain something in 1min instead of 5min, that’s great. If you can add humour, even better.

How do you motivate others?

I think it’s important to find out a person’s special talent -- they might not know what they’ve got. If you can find that, allow them to enjoy their work and give them responsibility, this formula equals happy workers. Happy workers equals happy clients.

What advice would you give to others entering the industry?

Make your own stuff. I used to save the money I made from tutoring physics to make my own comedy sketches. Those sketches are still getting me work today!

What do you do best?

I like to find a company’s unique qualities, spin it and make it exciting. No company is boring, but if you don’t look hard enough to find the good stuff, you will make boring content. And we don’t make boring content.

What are your aspirations?

To continue growing this creative hub where people can feel fulfilled creatively, but can also make a career out of it. I will continue presenting science series too as I feel it’s important to make science more interesting.

What are your passions?

My dog, my dog, my dog. And making educational, yet exciting content.

What are you doing at:

6:00 AM - Sleeping!

10:00 AM - Stand up with the team, what are we working on today?

12:00 PM - Lunch meeting or doing admin.

7:00 PM - Gym - I like to get a heavy workout in.

11:00 PM - Sleeping! (I like a good sleep)

What drink do you need to get through the day and at the end (and how many)?

Preferably nothing aside from water, but if I want a little kick I’ll have an Earl Grey.

Most used App/Favourite Instagram account?

WhatsApp as I have a lot of international friends and family to stay in touch with. I don’t like to spend too much time on Instagram, I’m usually having too much fun in real life. However, my Instagram is @elineHQ if you want to follow me.

What should everyone try at least once?

Eva Kaczor’s breathwork routine -- it is amazing. Oh, and poffertjes!
