My Native Admission Statement: Liz Shinn is an Atlanta-based graphic designer. She founded the coworking organization Ladies Work Remote in 2017 in Washington, DC. The mission of LWR (Ladies Work Remote) is to ensure that women who work remotely have a place to connect with like-minded professionals in their city. Local chapters of LWR meet up for weekly coworking sessions in coffee shops, libraries, and coworking spaces.

How did you get into the industry?
I started working remotely a few years ago when my team was partially remote. I now work full-time remotely and love the flexibility. I split my time between working from home and working from cafes for a chance to check out new areas of town.

Any industry opportunities or challenges?

It’s exciting to see the increased number of industries and companies that see the value of remote work!

In the US, a person typically spends 40 hours or more every week in the workplace. With remote work, you can customize your work schedule to suit your needs. For example, if you don’t want to sit in traffic on a long commute, you can use that time for work instead of waiting around to get to an office building. It’s given power back to the workforce, and it’s increased a person’s flexibility to determine how they are most productive.

What makes me the best version of myself?

My friends and family, as well as the community I have found coworking with other women in Ladies Work Remote. They are supportive and advocate for me and are a joy to be around.
