What do you do best?
I have an uncanny ability to see the potential in others who fail to see it in themselves. My fiancé will vouch for this the most, but whenever I hear about someone’s ideas or passion, I immediately start to think of ways to turn it into a business for them. I’m constantly asking people why not start an online store for your hobby or why not put your music online? The worst that can happen is that it doesn't take off and you’re right back where you started. I think a lot of people miss out on what their life could be because they don’t believe that they have what it takes to make it. So, I always try to show people that they can do it and that the path isn’t that far from the road they are already on.
What makes you the best?
I would say that its my ability to connect with people because I am genuinely interested in what their passions are. There is nothing better than listening to someone speak enthusiastically about their true hobby/interest in life. You can learn so much from a conversation with stranger if you hit on their passion. I pride myself in actually taking the time to listen to others and I believe that when you take this approach you gain the respect of people from all walks of life.
How will you stay the best?
This is a tough question because I really don’t think I am the best or better than anyone. I certainly aim for perfection in everything I do but like every human, I fail constantly. I always strive to be open minded and listen to those who are smarter than me. No matter what, there will always be ups and downs in business and in life so I try to enjoy the highs as much as possible but remember the lows and keep pushing. I think taking a moment every now and then to be present and enjoy the little things that life has to offer is an essential part of the path to be the best person one can be.
Right now I would say helping to create a completely new device in Draft Top and running a successful Kickstarter Campaign to the tune of +$105k as of this writing. http://kck.st/1Q0zwHe
I am certain there will be bigger successes in my life but right now this one is at the top.
What are your aspirations?
Personal: I just want to be the best person I can be. I want to be a fantastic husband, father, son, brother, and friend. Of course I will make plenty of mistakes in this journey but I want to make those mistakes with the best intentions at heart.
Business: I aspire to be a serial entrepreneur who is financially independent at young age. I want to continue to help to create new devices and bring ideas to life that the world has never seen.
Most challenging moment?
The most challenging moment so far has been the series of moments it took to bring Draft Top to life. Armand and I spent 3 years developing and refining this tool. It was and still is, a long an arduous process but its one I wouldn't trade for the world.
What fascinates you?
Beer! The chemistry as well as the artistry that goes into making beer is utterly amazing. The new and exciting things brewers are doing today is just so thrilling to me. I count my lucky stars every day that I came of age during this great beer renaissance we currently living in.
Technology: The things we are and will be able to do with technology, are so fascinating. Everything from 3D printing organs, to possibly landing a man/woman on Mars is just crazy. I can’t wait to see it happen. Business, because of technology is changing so rapidly. We have seen a massive amount of barriers to starting a business be shattered in the past few years. I am enthralled that all you really need is an idea and the internet and you can change the world.
This is another tough question for me because whenever I hear or see a quote I like, I write it down in my iPhone. Here are five that I constantly revert back to.
“Success is never final, failure is never fatal, its courage that counts” - Winston Churchill
“Screw it, just do it” - Richard Branson
“Don’t worry, nobody else knows what they are doing either” - Ricky Gervais
“There are a million ways to shine, so chose one, instead of what you’re doing tonight” - Childish Gambino “aka: Donald Glover”
“There are no traffic jams on the extra mile” - Roger Staubach
Besides my fiancé, parents, brother, family, and friends, a small fraction of the people I admire are as follows:
Tim Ferriss: serial entrepreneur, best selling author and angel investor. What I really love is that he teaches people how to learn. His book The 4 Hour Work Week changed my life.
Opal Hill: She took up golf at the age of 31 to “get exercise” and wound up winning 2 tournaments in the 1930s. She eventually went on to become a founding member of the LPGA. She reminds me that you never know when or how you will find your passion in life.
Benjamin Franklin: obviously he doesn't need any description but what he was able to accomplish in his lifetime is awe-inspiring. Plus he loved beer!
Alex Blumberg: Entrepreneur and radio journalist. The podcasts he produces are amazing and if you haven't listened to the first season of Startup then you should download it now.
Mark Cuban: I just really like his views on life and business, plus I’d love to own my own sports team one day.
I have been fortunate enough to travel many places both domestic and abroad. With those experiences a few of may favorite are Chicago, Galway Ireland, New Jersey (Its where I grew up), New York City, Minori Italy, and St. Thomas US VI.
Right now it would be the product Armand and I created, the Draft Top. It turns your beer can into a pint glass by safely removing the top of aluminum beverage cans. We created this with the aim to improve the experience for beer drinkers by removing the top and releasing the aroma so that the beer can be tasted and enjoyed the way the brewer intended.
Well, if it wasn't evident enough already I am very passionate about beer. Aside from that I love sports, and I am especially fanatic when my alma mater is involved. I also love to run, read, and play basketball. History is a passion as well. Lastly I can not pass up a great story in the form of a podcast, movie, documentary or TV series.
