She has competed in several physique as well as endurance contests since her early bodybuilding days and most recently won her class in bikini at age 52. As comfortable in front of a camera as on stage, Reno is a name to remember as her career picks up pace with TV shows and more in development.

What’s Your NativeAdVantage:
I’m unusual in the fitness industry because my focus is not on creating a perfect exterior physique so much as building a functional physique fuelled on Clean Nutrition. I performed my own physique transformation using this strategy, because, although it’s nice to have a sexy body, it’s better to have one that functions well and has a capable brain to go with it. I use nutrition and exercise to enhance both, teaching others how to do the same.
I’m also unusual in that I am not a 20-something in this industry but an exemplar of the Baby Boomer generation. At 56 years of age, I’m giving the youngsters a run for their money. I love to challenge norms, defy expectations and deliver something new. When I talk about shaping a functional body instead of a size 4 illusion of that, it shocks most who listen. But it works.
What do you do best?
I’m best at defying norms and inspiring others to do the same. I didn’t start in the health and wellness industry at a young age, like most. I was 40. I competed, posed in bikinis on the covers of magazines, and became a New York Times best selling author at an age when most would never consider it.
I have challenged norms of eating by Striking Sugar and Eating Clean. Both of these health-creating programs help people learn to question what they are eating and to consider the role of nutrition in their own health care. Through my motto of Self Care is the New Health Care, millions have been empowered to take charge of their own health in practical, rewarding ways.
What makes you the best?
I don’t worry about the competition because when I do what I love to do - promote a planet full of functionally fit people through Clean Nutrition and exercise – the result is unique and compelling. My story is not one a direct line story from youth and beauty to success. It took many falls, obstacles and painful lessons to develop the brands of Tosca Reno and the Eat-Clean Diet®. I’m best at being authentically me. I tell my story. I share my failures. I lift people through their challenges by accepting my uniqueness.
I’m a born communicator. Writing, speaking, TV and social media platforms are exciting places for me to occupy. Here is where I find my stride. Here is where I connect. Ultimately it is the connections I have built through authentic communication that has created the following I have.
How will you become the best?
I can only be my best if I am willing to admit that I am never really there. The pursuit is what keeps me going. I desire it in every cell of my body. Being the best means reinventing yourself, keeping yourself relevant and being willing to admit weakness and failure. That’s when you are ready to climb.
What are your aspirations?
Personal: I dream of meeting someone again. After the loss of my late husband, from whom I learned true love, I long for that connection with someone special. It is also important for me to keep strong family connections and dream of doing that here in my home but also in many other places on earth – travel is a powerful catalyst for cementing bonds and creating growth in oneself.
Business: My goal is to create a powerful global brand that becomes the vehicle for positive wellness changes in everyone’s lives because optimal wellness is everyone’s birthright. I will fight for that change.
What fascinates you?
Doing things any way but the normal way.
Ice cream = vanilla, treat = latte, sandwich = Ezekiel bread topped with hummus avocado & sea salt, body part to train = glutes, cardio workout – interval sprints
“Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it!”― Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
People who have struggled, fallen, gotten up and made something of themselves. Edison failed 1000 times before he created the light bulb but he did it. I admire that kind of grit.
Cape Split and Cape Breton Trails in Nova Scotia, my gym and a sweet smelling, freshly made bed
Beleza Brazil workout pants, my Land Rover, Well&Co functional nutritionals, my Strike Sugar Challenge, this computer (I can’t work without it) and my iPhone 6+
Making meaningful connections with people, reaching into someone’s life through the power of my words to help them achieve wellness, weight lifting and sprinting, my family, clean food.
