What’s Your NativeAdVantage:
What do you do best?
In my profession, I’m best at taking a fat script and trimming it down, rewriting it so that the ideas, characters, and emotions shine through. In my personal life, I’m a listener. People tell me their life stories after knowing them for less than a minute. It’s sometimes a joke between me and my wife as to how long it will take the cashier at the supermarket to tell me about her kids.
What makes you the best?
Experience and the desire to excel at what I do. I’m always learning. I read books about filmmaking, discuss movies with students and friends, and keep up with the media. I write as much now as I ever did.
How will you become the best?
By not thinking I’m the best yet.
What are your aspirations?
Personal: To live in the same city as my grandchildren, when I have grandchildren, six months a year, and to live abroad six months a year.
Business: To write and direct a movie a year.
What fascinates you?
The wide diversity of people, places, and things. And love. I’m endlessly fascinated by the attraction between people. Favorite:
“If I am not for myself, who will be? And if I am only for myself, what am I? And if not now, when?” Hillel, 1st century BC Talmudist.
People: My wife and daughter.
Ergo Styling Products - my brother’s line of hairbrushes, dryers, and curling irons.
Good food, good wine, cycling, and interesting people. Combined, it’s unbeatable.
