Shenal Dattani: Co-Founder at Luvango

My NativeAdantage:

Shenal Dattani, or Shen as she prefers to be called, is the Co-Founder at Luvango. An up and coming dating app that launches in 2015, it promises to be different to anything out in the current market. An obsession with gadgets, with those closest to her referring to her as "Miss Fix-it." She is an avid traveler and has a self confessed obsession with reading. Shen lost her father to cancer at the age of 8. Her mother, a young widow, with 3 daughters, went from being a housewife to working four jobs, and still somehow managing to find the time to come to every school play, parents evening, sports day and yet be home every night to read bedtime stories is what leaves Shen in awe of her hardworking mother. It is these memories that constantly drive her to do something different, something more challenging than working a 9 to 5 job.

What do you do best?

Solve problems, I am definitely a problem solver. I enjoy challenges and figuring things out, I can only assume this is why my friends and family call me "Ms Fix-It." Whether it's DIY furniture at home or problems at work. Thinking, listening and understanding helps me to fix things and focus on finding solutions to problems.

What makes you the best?

My work ethic for sure and my principles, I apply logic and reasoning in everything I do. I am able to read between the lines as I think this is a good way to get into a persons mind. I believe listening is the key to knowing what someone is trying to say and what they are actually saying. Some people are great at talking and getting their points, opinions and views across, whilst others have it all stored in their mind but can't bring it out, if you can listen and read between the lines, you can understand everybody.

How will you stay the best?

I am extremely ambitious and dedicated, staying true to my principles and continuing to not believe people when they say, "you can't do this" or "you can't do that" it is this, which always drives me to do what people say I can't do. I have never followed the crowd, I always make my own way, sometimes I get a little lost but I always find that I end up exactly where I need to be. Being dedicated and true to my vision is how I will become the best.

What are your aspirations: business & personal?

Personal: To do great work for charity, primarily set up schools in less economically developed countries because it is my strong belief that every child has the right to learn, and my own personal aspirations involve me being able to fulfil my mothers dreams. She wants to travel the world and I hope one day I am able to show her what she missed whilst raising my sisters and I. As for my own ambitions I hope to grow old drinking vast amounts of Kopi Luwak and Mai Tai's with a view of always remaining a creative, well balanced, and humble individual.

Business: For Luvango to do extremely well, make millions of matches world over, being invited to just as many weddings (I love weddings) and having the income in order to sustain the Mai Tai lifestyle which I will have become accustomed to.

What fascinates you?

The way in which technology has evolved amazes me. My earliest memories are of walking to a phone box 45 minutes away so my mum could call her family as there were no mobiles and using the landline was expensive if calling a different area code. I remember using a tape recorder to record songs from the radio making sure nobody made a sound otherwise it would get recorded on the tape, and I remember trying to get on the internet using dial up, and then the home phone would ring ruining the connection. We now live in a world where we can download music on our phones, get on the internet whilst being underground and in planes, and turn on our kettles, alarms and light switches whilst not even being in the same room. Technology is a world that fascinates me, the technology we have now was thought to be outside the realm of possibility 25 years ago, it just goes to show, anything is possible.
