Hello my name is Aidan Saunders and since April 23rd 2014 I have toured the UK in a hand-painted , freshly pressing linocuts and exhibiting a wide range of handmade printed ephemera. Currently I am a professional illustrator, visiting university lecturer and nomadic printmaker.
What do you do best?
Linocutting and being a travelling printmaker
What makes you the best?
I wouldn’t say I was the best linocutter, but as far as I know I am the only travelling printmaker in Britain, suppose that make me the best.
How will you stay the best?
I don’t strive to be the best, I just want to be happy with what I do and keep on making work I want to make and be passionate in making it. I think that’s the key to success in anything, need the passion.
Uhhm that’s tricky, I've managed to be part of some great exhibitions with people like The London Illustration Fair, Affordable Art Fair, Brighton Illustration Fair.. but to be honest I think my biggest success is having the confidence to embark on a tour of the UK in 2014. It was the first time I have shown my work and revealed my Print Wagon, I met some amazing people and some great galleries really helped me and showed me support.
What are your aspirations?
Personal: Be happy haha
Business: Short term aspirations at the moment are to pull off all the projects I am working on. Currently I am writing a book, making a reduction lino comic book, organising a show based on Mel Gibson and exhibiting in some brilliant fairs in my Print Wagon and planning a printmaking tour of europe. If I can pull that off I'd be happy for now.
Long Term I want to establish myself as a printmaker and graphic artist and perhaps open a print gallery. Before that though I want to keep exhibiting, organising shows and just well creating.
Most challenging moment?
Becoming confident enough with my work to show the public haha.
What fascinates you?
Animals, science, 1950's, 50's comics, folklore.
Not necessarily my favourite but is definitely what I take heed of the most 'If the phone isnt ringing, make it ring'.
My heroes are Muhammed Ali, Paul Robeson, Jonny Hannah, Everett Reuss, Long John Silver and Roald Dahl
Cornwall and Wales
hmm I collect all sorts of toot, don’t know if that counts stuff like authentic sherriff badges, cigarette cards, patches and all sorts of ephemera
