What do you do best?

I was called “the data dude” and this is a pretty accurate description of my approach to pretty much everything. I love collecting and analyzing data about pretty much everything. Curiously enough, I have been involved in detecting “cheating” in a wide variety of forms. Discovering fake online reviews, uncovering advertising fraud, discovering people that cheat in tests… Now I am involved in discovering people committing financial crimes, through a new venture, called Detectica.

What makes you the best?

I will state the obvious and say that I am not the best. But I try to do my best. I guess being really curious helps to discovering things by willing to dig a little deeper than anyone else. I have been often told that I am very competitive. I guess this naturally attracts me to deal with cases where someone is cheating and trying to get away with that. It becomes a contest for me to outsmart the cheater.

Biggest success?

The one that is yet to come. Receiving the Lagrange Prize last year also felt pretty good.

What are your aspirations?

Personal: To raise my children to be good people.

Business: Getting my research to have an impact in the real world.

Most challenging moment?

The moment when you realize that people you trusted are ready to throw you under the bus. I was a disappointing moment but also taught me a lot.

Favorite Motto:

Santorini is hard to beat.

Favorite Products:

The Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L lens is my favorite piece of all the gadgets that I have. I captured some pretty amazing moments and expressions with it.

Current Passions:

I love photography. There is something magical in capturing a moment for posterity. Given that life is memories, photography can really shape how you remember your life.
