Alexis Wolfer is the founder and editor-in-chief of TheBeautyBean.com, an online women’s magazine founded in 2009 to bring women their beauty, fitness and wellness fix in a way designed to make them feel better about themselves. Less than 2 years later, Forbes Magazine named TheBeautyBean.com one of the Top 10 Women’s Lifestyle Websites. Alexis has simultaneously become a well-known beauty and lifestyle expert, as seen on the Today Show, E!, The Doctors, NBC, CBS, ABC and FOX as well as in print outlets from WWD to AOL, CNN.com to Oprah.com, Teen Vogue to Star Magazine and even the United Kingdom’s leading newspaper, The Independent. Access Hollywood even named Alexis the 'Female Beauty MacGyver’ and People StyleWatch has dubbed her ‘The DIY Beauty Queen.’ She is the author of The Recipe For Radiance: Discover Beauty’s Best-Kept Secrets In Your Kitchen (Running Press, April 2014) and Radiant Bride: The Beauty, Diet, Fitness, And Fashion Plan For Your Big Day (Running Press, January 2016).
What do you do best?
Pack! (And book flights!)
What makes you the best?
I walk the walk. I think what makes TheBeautyBean.com – and everything else that I’ve done – stand out, is my commitment to authenticity and the transparency of the process. I think in this “influencer” industry, too many people are only showing their highlight reels: their filtered lives judged by followers and likes. I really try to be as open as possible – even when that means talking about my past (and sometimes current!) struggles with body image, or posting an unflattering pictures of me with zit cream on!
What are your aspirations?
To bring inclusive, empowered beauty to all women.
TheBeautyBean.com – and, more importantly, being a good human!
Most Challenging Moment?
The daily struggle to stay put and not ditch it all to go travel the world ;)
Step. Away. From. The. Scale. Your weight is not your worth – in fact, it does nothing more than measure your gravitational pull towards the earth. It doesn’t tell you how beautiful you are, how dynamic, how sexy, or, well, anything else. Also: you are an average of the people and experiences you spend most of your time with. Choose wisely.
Favorite People/Role Models?
My grandfather passed away 10+ years ago, but he’s still a guiding force in my life. He was the first person who expected excellence from me, and I continue to want to impress him!
The Blue Mountains in Australia are Magic. Utah is pretty special too! And always love an Asia adventure!
I always wear a ring (that was my grandfather’s) on a necklace (that was my mother’s) tied around my wrist as a bracelet. It’s my good luck charm and always reminds me of the people who matter most. On a beauty note (because I can’t pass up the opportunity to talk about what I know best!), I’m loving Kypris Beauty Moonlight Catalyst (I swear, it helps even skintone in mere days!) and May Lindstrom The Blue Cocoon is literally the best healing balm I’ve ever used.
Priority #1: Getting HRC in the White House. #2: a new business venture I’m working on (in health/beauty, but still secret!).
