What do you do best?
At the core of my being, I’d like to say being a mom. My children and husband are my world. They are the reason I get up every day, work as hard as I do, and live life to the fullest.
What makes you the best?
I wouldn’t say I’m truly the best at anything. I think everyone has a unique path in life and are the best at being themselves. There is only one you in the world.
Besides my family, it would have to be hitting the number one spot on the New York Time bestsellers list with January Calendar Girl. Unless I hit it again with another future title, that moment was probably one of the most surreal I think I’ll ever experience.
What are your aspirations?
Personal: I aspire to find balance. A true balance between being a wife, mother, author, friend, sister, daughter and everything in between.
Business: I aspire to be a better writer. I think every author does. We always want to outdo ourselves. Make the next book our life’s greatest work.
Most challenging moment?
My most challenging moment would have to have been signing the 27 book deal with my publisher Waterhouse Press. Transitioning from being an indie author to a traditional publishing house is absolutely terrifying. Though, what’s great for me is that I signed with an amazing publisher. They walk me through everything, hold my hand when I need it, support my stories as if they are the greatest thing you’ve ever read, but more than that, they believe in allowing their authors to write the books and stories they want to tell to the world. I find that priceless.
Trust the journey. I wrote it in my book Calendar Girl and tattooed it on my foot the same way my character did. I think it’s a good motto for anyone.
If you mean authors, I’d say: EL James, Meredith Wild, Kristen Ashley, Emily Hemmer, Sylvia Day, Christina Lauren, Katy Evans, and so many more! If you mean in my day to day life, my husband, children and my family.
My bedroom is my favorite place to hide…I mean, hang out. I’m a mother of two wild boys. If I could put myself in time out I would! Unfortunately, that’s not an option for a parent, but as an adult, I’d say I love my home state of California. From Murphy’s to Capitola and Berkeley and San Francisco. I’m pretty sure I’ll never move out of the state or the Valley. Where I live I’m two hours’ drive from everything, the beach, the mountains, the city, wine country. You name it, it’s close. I imagine there isn’t another place in the world like that.
Is this a trick question? Kindle Paperwhite is my favorite thing period. Not only am I a writer, I’m a voracious reader. Typically, I read three books a week. I take my Kindle with me almost everywhere. It’s a bit obsessive but die hard readers get it.
I’m in love with yoga. I actually went to school for it and became a Registered Yoga Instructor through the Art of Yoga. There is such a sense of unity through the practice of yoga, and sharing energy with those you meet can only make the world more harmonious. So in my free time, I do yoga, read, drink wine with my soul sisters, eat far too much pizza with my kiddos and just live life like anyone else.
