Sarah Cannon is the Founder & Owner of Party in a Cinch, a company that delivers carefully curated themed party boxes directly to your door. Sarah moved to Fort Lauderdale in 2011 from Columbus, Ohio. Growing up, her mom hosted holiday celebrations at home, and Sarah learned firsthand how to create the perfect party. She also learned that entertaining is all about showing people you care for them and making them feel loved. Her first job in event planning came at the age of 15 for an ice cream shop, where she planned children’s parties. After that, all of her work involved party and event planning, including running operations for a catering company and professionally planning events for all of her friends. Sarah got the inspiration to start her company when planning a baby shower. She ran around to four different stores, trying to find the perfect décor, when she realized she should create parties in a box to save people from party planning stress. She tested her concept on Etsy in 2015, perfected in 2016, and in 2017, Party in a Cinch is set to launch!
What do you do best?
I am a visionary, so I can see things 10 steps ahead of where they are now. It helps me to see the big picture and thus, form all the little parts that make up the big picture accordingly.
What makes you the best?
I deal very well with the ebb and flow of life. I love the ocean, it is my happy place and I view life like an ocean. It is calm sometimes, and sometimes it is rough and scary, but it is ALWAYS beautiful. Staying centered, through the good times and bad, makes me very well rounded. It allows me to roll with the punches.
What are your aspirations?
Self-growth is very important to me. I also want to give back and make an impact for women entrepreneurs through various avenues. I also plan to grow my company and have it be one that changes the party supply industry, while giving back to as many children in need. I also see Party in a Cinch opening a brick and mortar location in my hometown of Columbus, Ohio.
Launching my brand all started with an idea, so I think any success I’ve had, is a big success. From seeing the visions in my head come to life with finished products, to the first time someone purchased one of the party boxes. Even the time someone went out of their way to email me about how she used a box for her sister’s bridal shower and how much of a life saver it was. It all means a lot to me.
Most Challenging Moment?
Taking a leap of faith and leaving my career to go full-time with Party in a Cinch was my goliath. Everyone looked at me like I was crazy or insisted I should wait; which was tough because I knew it was the perfect time to leave. But it isn’t easy to get people to see your vision.
“Leave things better than you found them.”
Favorite People/Role Models?
1. My father- He works harder than any person I have ever met. It is inspiring to watch and learn from.
2. My mom – she was honestly put on this earth to be a caregiver, and she has the warmest heart!
3. Phil Knight – His book, “Shoe Dog” was pretty life changing for me.
4. Sheryl Sandberg- Her perspective on women in business and the world, is enlightening.
My absolute favorite place would have to be Barcelona, Spain. Not shocking, since I am a beach person, my usual destinations are in tropical areas.
My products of course! And…anything that makes me more efficient in my day-to-day life. I couldn’t live without my smartphone either. lol
Growing my event and party planning knowledge is a very time consuming passion of mine. Things are always evolving and changing in design and I love being on top of all the upcoming trends. Cooking has always been a huge passion (and stress reliever) of mine. I spend time focusing on cuisines from various parts of the world until I think I’ve got them down and then I move on to another!
