Jenniferlyn Chiemingo: International yoga retreat leader

My NativeAdVantage:

Jenniferlyn is known affectionately by her STUDENTS + FRIENDS as JL… And the words JOY, LOVE, YOGA surely describe her BEST! JL is a Bay-Area-based yoga teacher who leads life-changing yoga retreats around the world… And she is simply one of the most loving, open-hearted humans you will ever meet. Through yoga on the mat and in travel - JL’s goal is to provide her students with the opportunity to experience genuine joy, love, and connection (a.k.a. yoga). JL’s unique yoga teaching style is a creation all her own and an experience that all will benefit from. She is both flowing and grounded. Her classes are joyful, loving, spiritual, and inspiring. When you step away from one of her Vinyasa classes, you will feel more connected to yourself and the world around you. She provides loving support to newbies while continually challenging her regular practitioners to find greater depths in their practice.

JL first experienced yoga in 2000 when she was looking for a way to escape the daily stress from her job as a TV news producer in northern California. That was when yoga started to change her life. Overcome by the power and benefits of yoga in her own life, JL decided to move her career from the newsroom to the yoga mat in 2002. With curiosity and ambition, she followed her dream and began her training at Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health with an emphasis in Integrative Yoga Therapy. JL continued her training with Shiva Rea, embracing Vinyasa yoga. Through Vinyasa, she learned the powerful energizing and cleansing benefits of linking breath with movement.

JL is listed E-RYT with Yoga Alliance and has taught for more than 15 years in Seattle and the Bay Area. After more than 8 years leading international yoga retreats, this year, in her partnership with The Travel Yogi she will bring adventurers to France, Bhutan and Panama. Her intimate getaways will change your life.

What do I do best?

I am a connector. I bring people together…. For yoga, for friendship, for partnerships in business and personal. I pride myself with my ability to help people step into their own light and be their best self.

What makes me the best version of myself?

I think this would have to be my heart.  It is difficult to remain vulnerable and open after any kind of pain, but this truly makes me me so I’d never change it.  Sutra 1.2 – Yoga is the uniting of consciousness in the heart. I truly believe in leading life with your heart (and not your head).

What are my aspirations?

I aspire to travel the entire world. Truly. I want to see as much of this planet we live on as possible. Through travel I want to help people connect; to themselves and to teach other.

My Biggest Success?

Definitely my family. I have been married for more than 18 years and my husband and I have a 14 year old son. It took us three years to conceive a child and we absolutely savor our jobs as parents.  We are a work in progress but I still feel like this family is my biggest success because we are committed to each other and this life. That is no small feat.

My Most Challenging Moment?

Two years ago, I literally woke up super sick. I found out months later I had two, rare, life-long illnesses. I was always ‘the healthiest person in the room.’ Now I am learning to find my health and fight for it every day. This means making the right choices for food, health care insurance, doctors, Eastern and Western Medicine, movement and meditation.

My Motto?

Love Big, Love More, Love Always.

If we lead with our hearts we cannot go wrong.

My Favorite People/Role Models?

Famous: Ellen Degeneres, Oprah, Cheryl Strayed

Every day people: My husband, Greg, who takes care of everyone around him in any way he can. My Best Friend, Kerry, for making me think! She challenges me to be a better me.

My Favorite Places/Destinations?

Goodness, travel is a passion… and in the last five years I have been blessed to have traveled many places. Let’s see – Personally, I love Nantucket Massachusetts. It is an island off the coast of Cape Cod. It is quaint and really special. Plus my husband and I were married there.

Kenya, Africa is special because of the people. So much love and light there.

The Galapagos Islands offers unique and amazing animals. I have swam with a Sea Lion and with Penguins in the waters off of the islands there.

I get to travel to Bhutan in February and I cannot wait!

My Favorite Products/Objects?

I love Do Terra Oils and use them every day. I diffuse them in my house, I ingest them for health and I just love the smell of them.

Glassybaby are artist blown glass votives. The description doesn’t do them justice, but each piece is a work of art when you place a tealight inside them. I collect these. Each one has a story, each one (except one) in my collection has been a gift to me from someone special.

My Current Passions?

I am ecstatic about travelling to Bhutan and leading yoga retreat there in February 2017  - and all the upcoming trips too! (Panama and likely Portugal, personal travel will include Australia too)

I am passionate about teaching yoga – after 15 years that has never changed. Teaching is different every day, every year. Right now, I am passionate about combining Yoga and Travel as often as I can.
