Bio:

Native from France, Céline Antoine is a yoga teacher based in New York City and a teacher trainer for the studios Yogaworks. Passionate about traveling and learning new cultures, she discovered Yoga for the first time in India. She instantly fell in love with this philosophy for its physical and spiritual aspects. She's been teaching yoga since 2006. Céline’s teaching style emphasizes the Iyengar precision of alignment combined with a breath-based flow of movement. Her knowledge of anatomy and kinesiology allows for a deep understanding of the physical body as a whole. She's certified in back care and scoliosis and is also a certified Yoga Tune Up teacher. For Céline, yoga is about reconnecting with our true self through cultivating awareness. She sees yoga as a pathway to greater harmony in life.

What do I do best?

I’m a very good listener and an attentive, caring person. I’m able to feel people deeply. In our societies where everything goes fast and everything is based on consumption, people don’t know how to listen anymore. It’s such an important tool so we can hold the space for someone and relate deeply to the person.

In my teaching, I’m very precise with my instructions.

What makes me the best version of myself?

My patience, my perseverance, my meditation practice.

Nature, the ocean and silence.

What are my aspirations?

I would like to keep growing my teaching and take it more internationally. Today I teach mainly in New York and in France. I’m also considering the online platform to be able to share my teaching to more people.

On a personal level, I would like to find a living space closer to nature and the ocean.

My Biggest Success?

Being able to redefine myself after arriving in New York City 17 years ago.  At the time, I was freelancing for French newspapers and not speaking English. But somehow everything worked out perfectly and I’ve been now teaching yoga full time for the past 11 years. And the best thing is that I can feel deep in my heart that teaching yoga is my calling.

My Most Challenging Moment?

Also when I arrived in NYC 17 years ago. At the time, I wasn’t speaking english. I came with my boyfriend (now my husband), with a few hundred dollars and no contact. I was 24 years old. I had finished my master in social law in France and was freelancing for some French newspapers but I wasn’t getting paid enough to make a living out of it. This was a though experience at the beginning but it made me who I am today. And I’m so grateful for that. It helped me to know myself really well (the good, the bad and the ugly parts) and to make it happen on my own.  As much as people are kind and welcoming in NYC, at the end of the day, you are on your own and you have to get up and go for it no matter what. This experience made me a much stronger, a more courageous and a more understanding person.

My Favorite Places/Destinations?

So many!!  Basically any place where there is water, nature and a deep connection with the people.

I love traveling so I was able to see a few countries so far. We did a 8-month backpacking trip in South-East-Asia in 2003 and got to go to Indonesia, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, China and India. This was a unbelievable trip since we traveled on a very low budget (33$ a day for 2 people) and managed to stay on budget. So as you can imagine we traveled the local way by buses, trains and boats, eat street foods (so delicious!) and slept in very basic accommodations. We were able to immerse ourselves in the cultures and be with the people. It was such a beautiful and transformational experience. It’s actually during that trip that I fell in love with yoga in India. And this changed my life forever.

My Current Passions?

I started to add more weight exercises in my routine and I weirdly love it. My body isn’t hyper mobile but teaching and practicing yoga a lot, it is asking for more strength in certain parts.
Sharing my love for the essential oils with my students and community for a healthier world.
And I’m always looking for my next travel destination! Hoping to go to Chile, Argentina and or Brazil soon.
