Odette Hughes found formal yoga practices at the age of 19, and began a life-long journey as a teacher and as a student. She has completed 500 hours of formal training in vinyasa yoga and is certified in Thai yoga massage. She completed an M.S. in Physiology and Integrative Medicine at Georgetown University in 2015 to deepen her understanding of the inner body and is currently finishing a master's in yoga therapy at the Maryland University of Integrative Health. Odette's approach has been influenced by a variety of perspectives, both holistic and biomedical, with which she hopes to create informed healing experiences. She enjoys teaching both therapeutic classes highlighting gentle, mindful movements as well as more athletic types of classes that incorporate challenging postures.
What do you do best?
Create, teach, lead, plan, and implement.
Currently I am a full time graduate student who is also practicing as a yoga therapist.
What makes you the best?
My insatiable desire to learn, my willingness to learn from others, and my goal to create value for many. I am also served by my willingness to collaborate, my belief in myself, and my professionalism. Finally, my intent to practice kindness with everyone and to ask for help when needed allows me to make the most of my talents.
What are your aspirations?
To complete a PhD in Movement Science within the next three years.
I have taken full responsibility for my emotions and do not look to others to validate my opinions, worth, goals, or desires in life. Professionally, I am very proud to have created and led a 200-hour and 300-hour yoga teacher training at age 28…academically I have successfully completed two master’s degrees which have challenged me physically and emotionally.
Most Challenging Moment?
Deciding to break up with my boyfriend of five years when it became clear to me that our best intentions were not bringing us into alignment.
Everything is always working out for me.
