What do I do best?

I dig deep & try my damnedest to have perspective in all things. Whether it’s pulling all all-nighter to get a deliverable out, pushing through fatigue training hours per day for contests or testing a recipe for weeks to develop it just right, I’m all in. There’s a place in my mind that I go to when I’m pursuing a goal ~ no matter what size ~ that helps me efficiently research, digest & respond to a problem that needs solving. I’m not so sure that everyone has that ability. It’s all grey area in my life because black & white is crippling on so many levels.

What makes me the best version of myself?

Fear of the average. I’ll go full out sans ego and admit my innate revulsion to a life anything near ordinary. I’ve been a performer and a dreamer for all the days I’ve walked this earth. The vision I have of myself might not exactly be who I really am, but she’s adventurous and likes to take risks…with very little attachment to people or places and especially things. I admire the spirit of pioneers, gypsies and groundbreaking entrepreneurs who are willing to rise to the top (with grace and humility) but with a profound respect for the notion that it could all be taken away in an instant. Living fully in every moment this way leads to less distraction, stress and sameness which, for me, is a death sentence.

What are my aspirations?

Personally, I dream of being able to live a life with a lot less technology, desk jockeying and the like. Ideally, my days outside of work would be spent hiking, swimming, traveling by motorcycle and meeting new faces. I relish in listening to the life stories of others with similar nomadic passions. Business-wise, well, I hope that I will be able to provide a healthy level of understanding of plant-based living to the general public. There are shocking and offensive ways of trying to convince people to change their ways, but I find this black and white approach lacking in class. I’d like to create a safe space for people to understand the impact that their personal health and wellness has on the planet, its inhabitants and of course their bodies. This will eventually manifest into a retreat center in Central America.

My Biggest Success?

My marriage. By far. At 39 I’ve been divorced twice. Once married to a physically and emotionally abusive person, the second time married to a trust fund baby who lost his grip on reality. After walking away from both of those lives of misery I really thought that I had not one ounce of love left in me, that I was a romantic leper if you will. I kept with my usual program of digging deep and managed to reconnect with the person that I was meant for years ago. We are both entrepreneurs, creatives and free thinkers. No one person crushes the other and the dialogue is nearly always open. We try as hard as we can to understand one another, grow and move on. I admire those who can soldier on in life alone and get it all done but, honestly, without my successful partnership I think I might have packed it in years ago. In a lifestyle where you’re always on the move it’s nice to have your partner be your home so that you can live the life of a Rolling Stone.

My Most Challenging Moment?

I would love to say that this was being diagnosed with Cancer in my early 20’s but, this has paled in comparison to the level of stress involved with moving to the US and starting up sister businesses here. The amount of legal paperwork required, the physical drive across Canada while still trying to work out of a moving vehicle, revenue mandates that are utterly unachievable…the butterflies in my stomach are welcome to fly away any time now! It’s never knowing what the light at the end of the tunnel actually is, dig? It could be the exit or a train and either way the brakes on the car you’re driving are totally spent. This past year has forced me to accept the fact that more often than not, our personal fate is so far beyond our control that there is no point struggling. Life can become a pair of Chinese finger cuffs if you let, it and so far, through my immigration woes, I’ve managed to keep both hands on the wheel. Check back with me in 6 weeks and see what I have to say then.

My Motto?

There are no days off. (Because there simply are not until we expire)

My Favorite People/Role Models?

Of course there are a lot of fitness role models to admire like the utterly energetic Tony Horton! He’s even tried out Veganism so I have to respect him even more these days. Arnie, he’s a machine in his business life and honestly has given up so much to get where he is. I might not have the nards to do it his way, but I respect the sacrifices he made as a person to achieve his dreams. He too is now towing a more green line where nutrition is concerned speaking up about carnism and it’s impact on the planet. Kind of silly but in terms of a personal mentor (more like a shiny thing I’m distracted by from time to time really), there’s this Instagram/social media sensation called Gianluca Vacchi who is an all-out laugh-riot. The dancing, the travelling, the tattoos, the affluence and the madness. I love every minute of the glisteningly wild persona he represents online. He’s also in a bit of financial hot water so I am (somewhat morbidly) waiting to watch how he handles his own financial turbulence publicly.

My Favorite Places/Destinations?

#1 Without fail every time: The Resort at Pedregal, Cabo San Lucas, MX. Not 1 bad day here ever.

#2 Nicaragua, Central America ~ simplicity & beauty without the distractions of the Western World

#3 Las Vegas, NV ~ they’re Veganizing & it’s great. Also, people watching every moment is shock & awe no matter how many times you go in one year. Memories made (where you can remember them) every trip.

#4 San Francisco, CA ~ mysterious, enveloping Vegan foodie paradise.

My Favorite Products/Objects?

You got me on this one. I’m really not a “things” person so there hasn’t been one thing I cannot live without at this point in my life. I have a strange addiction to New Balance sneakers…as in, if it weren’t totally over the top to own a pair of each design produced I would. Literally the only thing I use on a daily basis other than personal care items and weight training equipment would be my Macro tracker. Sad or simplified?

My Current Passions?

I’m excited about 1MM things at a time. Currently; *my Vegan in 60 program, *planning a move to Central America to open a retreat business/fitness facility/café, *creating my second Vegan macro-based cookbook, *planning my 1 month European motorcycle trip happening next year.
