Kristen Seymour is co-owner at Fit Bottomed World and holds the position of Editor-in-Chief at Fit Bottomed Eats. She’s an enthusiastic (if not particularly speedy) triathlete, enormous animal lover, and passionate pescatarian foodie (with a special love of Mexican food and roasted veggies). She relies on her dogs to get her outside when she’s feeling lazy, and counts on Twitter (and her fellow FBGs) to motivate her to hit the gym — works like a charm every time. Kristen makes time for yoga — at least a little bit — almost every day and is slowly but steadily making meditation a regular practice, even on (well, especially on) the days when all she can think about is how she can’t possibly make time to just sit and be. She’s a graduate of the University of Florida (Go Gators!), and she and her husband live, swim, bike and run in the Sunshine State with their two mutts and a mercurial cat.
What do I do best?
I’m one hell of a cheerleader … despite having never actually been a cheerleader. You need a confidence boost? I’m your gal.
What makes me the best version of myself?
I’m honest about both strengths and weaknesses. I don’t say yes to something unless I feel I can do it justice – although I might say, “Yes, but …” and request the help or resources I need in order to do what needs to be done. So, I guess I’m cautiously brave, which keeps me safe while allowing me to venture into unknown territory.
What are my aspirations?
PERSONAL: I always knew I’d be a writer, and although I fulfill that in a lot of ways with my day job, I also dream of being a novelist. I’m working on it. And it’s scary as hell – which is one reason I’m sure it’s something I absolutely have to do.
BUSINESS: Is wanting to change the world too big a goal? I want to spread our body positive message so far and wide that it ceases to be news … at which point, I suppose we’d find something newer and more revolutionary to promote. But when you love what you do, it’s not really work, you know?
My Biggest Success?
I had the opportunity to lead a short, energy-boosting workout for a huge crowd at the Lincoln Center – and the crowd was ALL IN. Hearing them laugh along with me and seeing them get out of their seats and dance was incredibly powerful.
My Most Challenging Moment?
I don’t know if “challenging” is exactly the right word for it, but choosing to become an official partner at Fit Bottomed Girls (now Fit Bottomed World as we’ve expanded beyond the original site) was definitely a life changing decision. And it’s led to plenty more opportunities for me to grow and be pushed outside my comfort zone! I never intended to be a business owner, but it was just so very clearly the right thing to do that it hardly felt like a choice to be made.
Let it be easy. Choosing to allow rather than attempting to force things doesn’t come naturally to me, but when I consciously choose to allow good things to come with ease, it makes a huge difference – both personally and professionally.
My Favorite People/Role Models?
Answering this is a bit like trying to say which of my dogs is my favorite! I have people I look up to for all kinds of different things, so, if I'm sitting down to write maybe it's J.K. Rowling, and if I'm needing to inspire and lead a group, perhaps Bob Harper. Lately, when I go to the gym, I'm DEFINITELY training to be like Wonder Woman. And if we're talking favorite people in general ... well, my family and friends are honestly the best.
My Favorite Places/Destinations?
I’m incredibly happy to say that I live less than two miles from one of my favorite spots on earth – Siesta Beach in Sarasota, Florida. I love taking my journal and some coffee over there in the morning before work, and it’s where I meet friends on Friday night for a fun and relaxed happy hour.
However, I love to travel. Maui has a special place in my heart, as does the wilderness of Ontario, Canada, where I vacationed every summer as a child. And I recently visited London for the first time and I just can’t wait to go back – I fell in love with the city within the span of an afternoon.
My Favorite Products/Objects?
I'm a bit of a running shoe fanatic. We’ve worked as brand ambassadors with Brooks Running for years, so I’m always wearing the newest, coolest ones – right now, I’m logging most of my miles in the Glycerin, but they’re just now releasing the Levitate, which might be my new favorite. I’ve only gotten in one run so far so I’m withholding final judgment for now. Other things you’ll rarely see me without are good sunglasses, quality sunscreen (I do live in Florida, after all) and my phone (I take pictures of everything and love sending random gifs to make my friends laugh).
My Current Passions?
Boy, this could be a really long list if I’m not careful! I love animals, books withcompelling characters, stand up paddleboarding, hiking, traveling, wine (sparkling or otherwise), dancing with enough enthusiasm to embarrass my husband, indie music (not that I’m so terribly cool – you’ve almost definitely heard of the bands I’m into), running, swimming, yoga – and encouraging kids and adults of all ages to find activities and healthy foods they honestly love and enjoy.
