Lauren Bates is an avid traveler with a deep passion for connecting people and creating meaningful experiences. She has traveled to over 35 countries and lived in both Argentina and Peru. At home in Washington, DC, Lauren is known as a connector of creative women and hosts a monthly wine night at her apartment. Prior to Wild Terrains, Lauren was Chief Marketing Officer at UrbanStems, where she dreamed up and launched their wildly successful collaboration with Vogue. After grueling startup hours left her in a bit of a creative rut, she needed a last-minute vacation. She searched for women-only groups but was disappointed by what she found: only activity-specific trips centered around things like yoga, trekking and surfing. Lauren wanted to travel with other creative women, but also to meet and support the women leading the charge in the local design, art, and food scenes in the places she visited. When she couldn’t find what she was looking for, she decided to launch Wild Terrains Experiences with Mexico City as its first destination.

What do you love most about Your City?

I love the architecture in Washington, DC. From historical buildings to the colorful row homes, no city block is alike. I love walking here and try to do it as much as possible.

Favorite breakfast meal & restaurant?

I work from The Wing in Georgetown most days, so I usually grab a cold brew and a bite from their café.

What are you doing at:

6:00 AM – still sleeping! I’m a night owl.

10:00 AM – checking email, planning out my tasks for the day, and getting caffeinated!

12:00 PM - Favorite Power Lunch spot/meal?

Normally I am eating at my desk, but if I have to meet someone for lunch I love meeting at The Line in Adams Morgan.

7:00 PM - wrapping up work for the day and heading out to meet friends for dinner and drinks.

11:00 PM – getting ready for bed, washing my face and attempting to stick to a solid skincare routine

What drink do you need to get through the day and at the end (and how many)?

Cold brew with almond milk is an absolute must. I’m a nightmare without it. I love ending an evening with a big bold glass of wine or a whiskey cocktail.

Most used App/Favorite Instagram Account?

I don’t think I can choose a favorite Instagram account! Most used apps: Asana and Evernote.

What should everyone try at least once?

Group travel, of course! We’re the first to admit that most group travel can be challenging. But it can be amazing when the organizers are paying attention to all the small details.

Where do you enjoy getting lost?

Pretty much anywhere on this planet. I love getting lost in a new country or city and just seeing where the day takes me. It’s the most freeing feeling in the world.
