Jay Bartley is a Certified Structural Integrator and the owner of Bartley Structural Integration – The Rolf Method located in West Hollywood, California. He offers the classic 10 series created by Ida Rolf or individual sessions based on his clients’ needs. His training included structural bodywork, biomechanics and somatic psychology. Each session is designed for the individual. Jay works with his clients’ natural alignment while listening and feeling. He introduces ease, breath and length to achieve a more functional and balanced body.
Since childhood Jay has been fascinated with the limitlessness of the human body. Growing up, Jay was involved in a variety of sports including gymnastics, which led him to his first dance class. He has been a performer and a choreographer for over 20 years. He has studied ballet, jazz and modern dance – trained in Graham, Alexander, Klein and Laban/Bartenieff techniques. He was also a touring member of several Los Angeles based modern dance companies including The Stephanie Gilliland Company, Tongue and a founding member of Method Contemporary Dance.
What do I do best?
I listen – this is not a learned or trained attribute. You either are a born listener or not. People want to be heard and I want people to feel comfortable and to be able to speak without interruption. I create a safe, open and warm space for people to share.
What makes me the best version of myself?
Persistence and a desire to learn and grow every day.
What are my aspirations?
To continue growing my practice and bring my work to a wider audience.
To spread the word of embodiment and movement, giving people the opportunity to experience and be in their bodies.
Write, dance , create

My Most Challenging Moment?
Making the decision to change careers was one of the most meaningful and impactful times in my life.
I worked in the corporate world for over 10 years and it was killing me, literally sucking my soul out of me. I was becoming an unhappy, pessimistic, unmotivated, directionless, unhealthy person. I worked 9-5 Monday through Friday and partied on the weekend. That was my life. I had to change it, in 2007 I quit my “safe” job and enrolled in a massage therapy program. I hustled my ass off, did odd jobs to pay for tuition, rent and food and even had the occasional melt down. I worked as a Massage Therapist for a while, then had my first (of many) 10 series of Structural Integration/Rolfing and was hooked. I knew this was my next step.
I am a lover of quotes, phrases and words…Here are a few that I use on a daily basis.
Evaluate and take action, Dance it out, Namaste it out, BE in your body
“The past is irretrievable and often the future doesn’t exist. Why don’t I remember this more often” – Michael Ventura
“Be really whole and all things will come to you” – Lao-Tzu
My Favorite People/Role Models?
I have many people I look up to and admire, some I know personally and some from afar.
My partner is first, he balances me out.
My mom, it has taken me a long time to appreciate the woman she is and has become. She is a constant presence in my life. My mom has had many challenges that she overcame. She essentially raised me as a single parent, while running her own business and that is very admirable. We share many traits, but the one that I appreciate the most is our love for potions and lotions.
I was picked on and bullied as a child and I admire anyone that has risen from being treated unfairly for being/acting “different” I was and am an underdog and other underdogs are one of my favorite types of people.
