Asha Brightwell is a Philadelphia based yoga teacher and performance artist. She currently teaches at all three Wake Up Yoga studios, Sculpere Studio and Philly Dance Fitness. When she is not teaching, traveling or performing she enjoys walks in the city, nights out dancing and lounging around watching movies with friends and fur babies (three cats and one small dog).
What do I do best?
I give people space. I am very good at holding space for people to be able to express themselves and work through anything they might need to get off their minds.
What makes me the best version of myself?
I know myself. I place a lot of value on spending time alone and learning who I really am and what I really want. If you take that time to REALLY get to know yourself, that knowledge will help guide you through anything. It’s also important to give yourself permission to change and grow and I feel like taking the time to make friends with yourself makes those times of change easier to weather.
What are my aspirations?
I personally aspire to be the best version of myself that I can be and to never stop trying new things. In a business aspect, I am both a performer and a teacher, so those goals can be very different. I suppose my overall goal is to find a way to combine all of my different worlds and endeavors somehow. Maybe that’s my version of enlightenment.
My Biggest Success?
I left my hometown to move to a city where I barely new anyone to pursue a performance art career and I succeeded.
My Most Challenging Moment?
I always find it challenging when I have to leave a relationship (personal or business) that is no longer serving me in any way. It’s always a struggle to make a decision to end something, even if it isn’t making you happy or is unhealthy for you. There is guilt and second guessing and it’s always awful, but in the end, you have to do what’s right for yourself. I have had many of these moments and they are always incredibly challenging.
There are other worlds than these.
My Favorite People/Role Models?
My role models are my students who keep coming back and put the work in. I am always inspired by people who never stop working on themselves.
My Favorite Places/Destinations?
One of the most memorable places I have ever been was the sand dunes in Oregon. I watched the west coast sunrise on top of a giant sand dune and it was so beautiful.
My Favorite Products/Objects?
Toe stretchers! As a dancer and yogi, my feet often complain about the work I put them through. Toe stretchers saved my life! I also really love bath bombs. My favorite products are all about self care.
My Current Passions?
I have always been passionate about dance. I love expressing myself through movement. I’m currently really passionate about self care and getting through the rest of winter, but dance is my constant passion.
