After graduating Chapman University, Paulina Lagudi moved to Los Angeles to pursue her filmmaking endeavors. Aware of the extremely small percentage of female filmmakers working in Hollywood, Paulina decided this was the perfect opportunity to create her own films as well as launch her production company Jax Productions, LLC, named after her first rescue dog, Jax. Since launching in June 2015, Paulina has written and produced short films, multiple commercials / online branded content and her first feature film shot summer 2017. She has big plans for her company and plans to shake things up in the filmmaking community for all underrepresented individuals.
What do I do best?
I think the one quality I have that has helped me most in both my personal and business lives is my ability to adapt to situations. I have no problem dropping everything and starting fresh or scratching an idea and pivoting to something else. As a filmmaker, being able to adapt to new situations is kind of imperative considering things go wrong all the time.
What makes me the best version of myself?
I don’t know if it’s a good quality, but my persistence, sometimes disguised as impatience, has gotten a lot done for me over the years. I am often known as being the person that will ‘get s**t done’. I like to move efficiently through projects and most things in life. I also have a hard time not finishing something. If I start it, I have to finish it. However, at time, this does not make me the best version of myself because patience is an incredibly valuable quality that I sometimes sacrifice.
What are my aspirations?
My aspirations in life pretty much all boil down to one thing. I want to keep taking risks in order to break down my own boundaries of what I think is possible for myself.
My Biggest Success?
This one is hard for me since I have a hard time naming or recognizing anything I do as a success. It’s a terrible quality. My biggest success to date may have to be my most recent feature film, “Mail Order Monster”. We shot it in the summer of 2017 and completed it before Christmas 2017. We had to overcome so many challenges to make it happen. I was the producer, director, writer so I had a lot of responsibility. But I met all my main goals with the film so I think that make it my biggest success to date.
My Most Challenging Moment?
Now these I can recognize haha. I’ve had a lot of challenging moments. My most notable has and always will be going through and overcoming my eating disorder. There was a life changing moment that involved my boyfriend, Cooper, (now fiancé). He helped me take back my life.
I have a couple mottos, but if I had to pick one it would be, “Say little. Do much.” I have that tattooed on my wrists as a reminder.
My Favorite People/Role Models?
My favorite people are my family including my fiancé, his family, and our dogs. I have a few friends that fit in the favorite people list, too. I don’t have a lot of role models. I have people who inspire me, but as I get older my list of people I look to as role models becomes very small. I think this is because of the fact that people are human and I know putting an expectation on them to be something like a role model will only lead to disappointment when I find out they don’t live up to my idealized version of them. With that said, the people I look to for inspiration in different aspects of my life are Cooper, my father, Steve McQueen (the director not the actor).
My Favorite Places/Destinations?
Napa Valley is one of my favorite places/destinations because of the incredible memories I’ve spent there with Cooper.
Hawaii is also a place dear to my heart.
Sydney is where I grew up for part of my life and most of my family still lives. It also happens to be one of the most beautiful places in the world.
My Favorite Products/Objects?
My journal, my laptop, and my jump rope.
My Current Passions?
I train in Krav Maga and would love to be a black belt some day, so that’s a current passion of mine. Cooper and I are huge foodies as well as most people in my family, so I love to cook as well as try fun new restaurants / food experiences.
