Career Advice to those in your industry? I encourage all college students in mass communications (print, radio, broadcast and multimedia) to get their start in the industry early. The opportunity is akin to having a new car: once you drive it off the lot, it depreciates. Gaining the necessary experience before you graduate works to your benefit. If you wait to look for an opportunity in this industry after you graduate, you’ll end up in a pool with thousands of others looking for the same limited job position. There are only a few slots to be filled, so the earlier you make meaningful connections for entry, the better. It’s also important to cast a wide net. Your first position may not be in a populous city like Los Angeles, but you can start working in smaller markets and work your way up. Lastly, networking and making meaningful connections with those in the industry is essential. Part of the job is not what you know but who knows you.
Why did you write this book? Believe Bigger was inspired by a “split rock moment” that turned my world upside down when I found out six days before my dream wedding that my fiancé was cheating on me. After hitting rock bottom spiritually, emotionally and financially, I discovered that disruption is actually the invitation to a sweeter life of purpose, joy and abundance if we dare to believe bigger.
What does the title of the book—BELIEVE BIGGER—mean? To believe bigger is to believe beyond what you see and what you “think” you know. What do you love most about Your City? Dallas has such a layered persona – couture and high-end but also community-focused and kind. Businesses are flocking here, creating a really diverse group of global cultures and perspectives. Our economy is booming, which is great for me as an entrepreneur. I grew up here, so I have a deep love for the people and places that others are just discovering but have always been home to me.
What are you doing at 6:00 AM – By 6 a.m., I’ve already been through emails and packed lunch for my kindergartener. My friend, Kelly, and I head out for a run before everyone wakes up. I’ve embraced being a “morning person.” It gives me a jump on the day before things get too hectic.
My Tip of the Day: Feeling lost or confused? Try a grounding cord – an imaginary connection with the center of the earth. To try it, close your eyes and take a deep breath. Imagine a tunnel of light coming from the base of your spine (if you had a tail, right where a tail would be), extending through your chair, the floor, the layers of the earth, and finally let it connect at the very center of the earth. This connection from the base of your spine to the center of the earth serves as a giant trash chute for any energy you don’t need to be carrying, i.e. stress, worry, fear, etc. Breathe and let the earth support you.
My Tip of the Day: Stay calm, you’ll get off the plane and your bag will find you.
What do you love most about Your City? Access to countless mountain trails and river miles.
Favorite breakfast meal & restaurant? Lots of fresh fruit, really good whole milk yogurt and fresh-made granola. The Emerson Grill, it’s in an old school building that’s been converted to a community art center.

What should everyone try at least once? Driving around a race track while being coached by a skilled professional driver- a highlight of my life and I hate speed.

What do you love most about Your City? I love Miami’s open spaces and colors. It’s the only place in the United States that you can wake up to a tropical view filled with baby blue water and green Islands.
Favorite breakfast meal & restaurant? Currently, my favorite breakfast would be avocado toast egg Benedict. There is a small cafe called Cantina LA 20 at Brickell Icon that serves a pretty good one.
My Goal of the Day: To inspire at least one person every day to working on themselves, for example by learning a language.
Most used App/Favorite Instagram Account? Slack to communicate with my team, and also Messenger to stay in touch with friends.
What should everyone try at least once? Travel solo. So many people are afraid to just leave their home without a precise plan of where they’ll end up and whom they’ll meet. These things always figure themselves out by themselves, if you just open up to the possibility of someone or something amazing crossing your life path. It’s incredibly easy today with hostels and apps such as Couchsurfing Hangouts, Meetup and so many Facebook groups to find interesting people on your travels.
My Goal of the Day: To appreciate the simple things many of us take for granted and perhaps forget notice because we are caught up in our daily routine
My Tip of the Day: Become comfortable being uncomfortable. It’s a tool that can potentially get you very far.
What drink do you need to get through the day? Water is my BFF. Nearly ice cold. I’m not sure I could easily quantify but it usually replaces the incredible amount of sweat I leave on the dance floor, on the mirrors and in my attire. If you’ve ever danced with me you see know I’m a sweater!
How did you get involved with social entrepreneurship? I had toyed around with launching a couple different social ventures earlier in my career, but this most recent leg of the journey started while I was in grad school for City Planning at MIT. The School of Architecture and Planning launched their own startup accelerator program, and a classmate and I decided to apply. We threw around ideas for a month or two before seizing upon the one we decided to pursue. Everything essentially snowballed from there; we ended up being accepted into the accelerator, and went on to win multiple other competitions and accolades while still in school. We went full-time immediately after graduation, and the company is still thriving today. We were extremely lucky to receive international attention and press as we were focused on the two hot button issues of housing and aging, and that really boosted our progress. It was really hard in a lot of ways but ultimately it was a great experience. I think I learned more lessons about myself in those couple of years than I had during the entire rest of my life up to that point.
What drink do you need to get through the day and at the end (and how many)? Water. I drink a little over a half gallon of water every day.

What should everyone try at least once? Tone House. Taking your fitness more seriously is something we all need to do. Taking class at Tone House not only gets you in great shape, but it helps you become mentally strong as well. You also meet teammates that become your life long friends.
My Tip of the Day: I heard this and thought it was pretty great: When something goes wrong in your life just yell PLOT TWIST! And move on.
What should everyone try at least once? Surrendering to the universe, looking at every situation as a glass half full.
Where do you enjoy getting lost? Well I’ve got a pretty big imagination, so probably there. But if we are talking literally, I was recently lost in the halls on the ABC Disney lot, which is always special, looking at all the old posters and artwork.
My Thought of the Day: Each day we have the opportunity to do what is right and so we should, because life is short and purposeful.

My Action of the Day: Talking to my students and making them understand the true aspect of yoga which is way beyond just the physical exercises (asanas).Spread the message of yoga through my teachings as well as help my students to improve their personal practice through tips, advises, demonstrations and recommendations.
Favorite breakfast meal& restaurant? Being a yogi, I follow a simple vegetarian diet throughout the day. My day starts with a glass of lukewarm water with a little bit of lemon juice. For breakfast, I usually have some oats with milk and honey and a glass of fresh fruit juice. My afternoon meal is more of a ‘Sattvic’ diet which includes boiled rice, chapatti (Indian flatbread), daal (lentil soup), vegetable curry and green salad. Dinner is usually light and consists of a few chapattis with a vegetable curry. I hardly have outside food but when I do, my favorite is ‘Amrit Ganga Café’ in Rishikesh.

What should everyone try at least once? Get up on stage. There is no rush like it. I have been performing for years and I never get tired of it.
What do you love most about Your City? I love the beauty of Chicago – the architecture keeps my eyes engaged and inspires me creatively. The people of this fine city put all of their time intowork, family and fun. I love all the city year-round, but the summers is when the city really shines, with concerts in the park, packed rooftops and more festivals than you know what to do with.

What drink do you need to get through the day? I love to start the day with a cup of organic coffee with grassfed ghee and collagen peptides but the rest of the day is mostly water, some sparkling, some still and I like to have a kombucha spritzer- a combo of 1 part booch to 2 parts seltzer.
