Hazel Calderon & Garrison Gross

Hazel’s responses to Garrison’s questions:

What is your instagram handle and tell us more about all these activities you have fun doing?

You can find me on social media @hazelcalderon I love to Rollberblade, Rollerskate, Skateboard and Bike Ride. Back in Miami, I would ride my bike down and back from the beach. I would be on the road anywhere from four to six hours. For me this is pure bliss and happiness.

Tell me about your love for comedy?

The love I have for comedy started very young. I used to watch Lucille Ball. I was inspired by her performances. I remember thinking "What? She's an adult, but she's acting like a little girl. I can do that." These were the early sparks of interest, setting me in motion. As my love has grown, I have learned that it is important to embrace who you are. You must let yourself shine authentically and alway tap into the "creative center" of your brain.

Where are you from?

I was born in Nicaragua, a Central American Nation. I was raised in Miami, Florida. The SE region of Florida is very Carribean, Exotic and Super Sexy. Miami has the most delicious food from all over Latin America. I absolutely love it.

What is your dream job?

I see myself working as a series regular and bringing my original comedy special to the web streaming services.

Who are your biggest supporters?

When I was growing up, I received a lot of love. Mary Carmen, my beautiful Mother.  She has supported my creative growth and provided me with unconditional love. I got so much love from my parents and extended family. It is a combination of this love that made me who I am today.

Do you have any advice for up and coming creatives?

If you want something, you have to go and get it. No matter what anyone else says. You have a dream, it's in you and you must bring it to the world. Keep fighting for it and if you really want it, you will get it. You must train and put in the time to develop your skill sets.

What wisdom would you like to share with everyone?

I believe in meant-to-be and aligning with your purpose. Our worldly experiences can be transmuted into positive energy and received as a blessing to learn, grow and become our best self.

What is your favorite food?

My favorite food in the world is a Latin American/Central American food. I'm talking about "Sopa de Res." It's Boom! If you don't know about Sopa de Res, Boom! You are missing out.

Garrison’s responses to Hazel’s questions:

Where are you from?

Let me start off by saying I am Gary's Son, Garrison and I was born in Buffalo, New York. Our area is known for the original "Buffalo Wings." Throughout the city you can find iconic pizza places that will blow your mind.

When did you realize you had a talent with comedy?

It was very early in life that I became aware of my comedic abilities. I would entertain my parents full-time around the house and perform shows on the front porch. There was a constant flow of impressions, dramatizations and physical comedy. It made everyone feel better, one laugh at a time.

Why did you move to Los Angeles?

My Mom, Wahini Gross inspired me through her Hawaiian Dance Performances. We would travel together and I would help to keep her organized as well as making sure the setup/breakdown of all the events ran smoothly. I chose Los Angeles because it felt right. The proximity to a creative hotspot and having the ability to collaborate with a diverse group of artists is very important for growth and developing a sense of purpose.

Tell me about your first booking?

My very first booking was on the Netflix show "Grace and Frankie." I was introduced to Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. We were creating a scene where Jane's character was having a solo dance party on top of the bar while Lily's character was there for moral support. They got a  few shots of me reacting and cheering her on.

What's your favorite place in LA?

My favorite place in LA is the bike path flowing from Venice Beach to the Santa Monica Pier. Everyday people are participating in all sorts of fun activities that are good for the soul. The colorful sunset is absolutely beautiful and at night the Pier lights up as far as the eye can see. It's heaven on earth.

What is the message you would like to share with everyone?

My message is to align the mind, body and spirit. Actively programming the mind to think about what you would like to consistently do here and now with your time. Now we start participating in these activities which will in turn create a sense of well being and habitual feeling tones throughout the body. Finally we ask a great question. How can we use our magnificent passion to make this world a better place? We all have an opportunity to make miracles happen, everyday.
