How did you get into the music industry?
We kind of accidentally got into the music industry. Ivan Ablamskyi (VOX cofounder) & I were in the software business for 6 years. We had launched many consumer projects, however we were always passionate audiophiles. When the idea of HD audio got on the horizon, we both knew we should go there and devote both of our teams to one project - VOX.
Tell us about Vox. What inspired the idea and what is your vision for the company?
VOX started as a powerful consumer desktop music player. Since day one – it has been the most popular player on the Mac App Store. With this early success, we realized there was a high demand for an alternative music player (alternative to iTunes) that also provided quality. 128k mp3 and lossy streaming is not enough any more. We want to build an entirely new ecosystem around high quality music listening, which involves all - software (VOX players for Mac, iOS, Android), services (VOX Cloud - unlimited storage) and hardware.
What strategic partnerships have you implemented which have attributed to Vox's success?
We are currently negotiating partner deals with content companies and hardware manufacturers. Sound partnerships are next in line for us. SoundCloud integration was released recently. VOX features original files playback from SoundCloud- the feature never available in any other music player (including SoundCloud).
What industry trends are you noticing and how do you capitalize on them?
The primary trend is quality. We've already witnessed fast growth of content-providing startups and projects in the past decade. First - Apple launched iTunes Store and proved that electronic distribution can take over CDs. Then Spotify and Pandora proved that streaming subscriptions can take over pay-per-track. VOX believes quality will follow like it happened to TV. Look how Beats headphones sales grew and took over 60% of premium headphone segment. VOX believes that proves consumers want a better listening experience. Lossless & HiRes (24bit/96kHz) content are also on the horizon.
What aspects make VOX better than the rest of the competition?
VOX provides a better experience than any other music player in the world. Design, user experience - we are really setting the bar for this category of software.
