Roy Taylor is a 7-figure millennial serial entrepreneur who committed to living his life by the motto “Life By Design”. In 2018 he invested in multiple companies based around his priorities; health, wealth, & happiness. Roy now teaches others how to do the same, while scaling his ventures to 7-figures. Roy is the co-owner of DRIV3, the premier Los-Angeles based Exotic Car rental business. He also co-owns Ceeze (@ceezemc) a custom shoe company, which made shoes & bags this year for celebrities such as Lebron James, Tekashi 6ix9ine, Rich The Kid, and been featured on Hypebeast & HighSnobiety. His other ventures include his DTLA clothing print shop TektonLand (@TektonLand), a cannabis company Magic Pipe (@mymagicpipe), & his inner circle where he mentors upcoming entrepreneurs.

How did you get into the industry?

I originally got into entrepreneurship at the age of 19- someone tried to get me involved with a network marketing company. While I don’t really like all aspects of network marketing, it opened my eyes to the power of personal development, the law of association, and mentorship- ultimately that led me to become a serial entrepreneur & a 7-figure earner. At the moment, I own & manage various positions in 6 companies, ranging from an exotic car rental business to a Los-Angeles based clothing print shop, to social media marketing services.

Any emerging industry trends?

A huge emerging trend I’ve been noticing right now in entrepreneurship is the automation revolution. We are seeing companies cut massive jobs opportunities by using robots and software. I also see that on a micro level with fellow millennial entrepreneurs using software to do less work but make more- it started with instagram marketing but now it has spilled over to many many platforms and will continue affecting those who take action on it…and those who don’t.

Any industry opportunities or challenges?

I think more than ever, digital ads are continuing to present an amazing opportunity for anyone in the world who has a computer! We’re seeing billions of dollars being spend monthly digitally, from amazon to facebook, instagram to google! I think that more people should look into learning how to market online using Facebook Ads, and the amazing thing is that you can promote any service or product to any particular niche…and 90% of the time that niche hasn’t been fully explored!

Inspiration for the business idea, and your vision for the Business?

Essentially, most entrepreneurs have a strong why that fuels their daily motivation, drive, and grind! My why started with a desire to take care of family after my parents can’t anymore- it also stemmed from my gut instinct telling me “Roy, you should force yourself to make money online so you never have to have a 9-5 job”. Trust me, I’ve had many ups and downs, but after a few years (and a changing landscape!) digital entrepreneurship has become easier and easier! Each of my current businesses was built with my interests in mind- I love cars, so I built an exotic car rental business. I love fashion, so my custom shoe company always laces me up with fresh shoes! My vision for my businesses is scaling them up from 6-figures each to 7-figures in 2019. I’m hoping to make some more large-scale collaborations with fashion companies and expand my digital advertisement team.

What's next for the Business in the near future?

The most exciting changes coming for my businesses will be my new house in Hollywood, Los Angeles. This house is being paid for by my companies and will host new members of different companies, and help train/assist them with development for each business! I’ll have more of my team around me which will help increase productivity and allow me to mentor these individuals to push my businesses to 7-figures.

Your key initiatives for the success of the Business?

As I said before, digital marketing has helped every single business I own to flourish. I have been able to cut costs by automating my inbound leads and sales. I recommend every business starts building their online presence and running ads at least on Facebook Ads. Another incredibly resourceful initiative is hiring interns- most people with established brands forget that there’s many many people out there just looking to get involved in any way, shape, or form with your industry! Give them an opportunity to learn the ropes while assisting you get basic/specific tasks done!

Your most difficult moment at the Business? (and what did you learn?)

My most difficult moments (plural!) have been the challenges of dealing with desperate employees- sometimes you hire someone who turns out to be in a back-against-the-wall situation, and 5 days into the work they start needing to get paid, they can’t commit unless you give money ahead of time, etc. Working in Los Angeles, I’ve found many many people like this who are living on the edge. It truly helped me understand that unless you work with someone who isn’t living in a desperate mindset, the work will always be priority 2. That takes time away from getting tasks accomplished on time, efficiently, and without stress.

Ideal experience for a customer/client?

Experience is everything. For my physical businesses, I urge my staff to provide the best experience by thinking about the little things- it’s the small gestures that show the client that you care. For my digital businesses, a good experience is clear and quick communication. Clients hate being held up, or not getting answers same day… if you don’t message them quickly, they will just leave and go to your competitor!

How do you motivate others?

I love motivating others, as much as I love motivating myself! As my mentor said, “People often say that motivation doesn't last. Well, neither does bathing - that's why we recommend it daily”. I like to rant on my social media profile on instagram about entrepreneur stuff. I also stay active on Facebook by posting my favorite quotes, breaking down a specific thing many people might be going through, or just providing insight on a certain topic. The most effective motivation comes from getting around me- that way you see how I live, my standards, how I speak and stand, and my environment…usually that is a pretty good motivator for others!

Career advice to those in your industry?

Sales is the key to making money. It’s simple as that! Before I understood how integral sales was, I was struggling to make money, even as a “natural”. Once I dived into Sales, whole life changed. I realized I could sell items for $1,000 instead of $10. And I learned that selling $100,000 is just as hard as selling $10,000! Once your mind becomes open to sales, a whole world of opportunity appears to you! A great place to start is a book called “How To Master The Art Of Sales” by Tom Hopkins!
