What's Your NativeAdVice:

How did you get into the fitness industry?

By accident. I started training my boss Harlan Goodman in the early 90s before we both went to work in the morning. He introduced me to Tom Petty a year later. The rest is history.

Tell us about P90X. What inspired the idea and what is your vision for the program?

A few years earlier I developed a program called Power90. P90X was the harder, more extreme, advanced version of Power90.

What strategic partnerships/marketing strategies have you implemented that have attributed to your success?

I started with infomercials. From there we've expanded to direct marketing trough Team Beachbody, social media, YouTube and good old fashion word of mouth.

What industry trends are you noticing and how do you capitalize on them?

The "Industry" is typically all over the map. Most often it's behind by a year or two. Collegiate and professional athletes and their trainers set the standard for state of the art training. I'm focusing much more on speed, balance and flexibility, and less on cardiovascular training and spot training body parts.

Life Motto?

Do Your Best And Forget The Rest.  Have A Plan - Find Your Purpose & Stay Accountable to others who want to live large too.

Daily workout regime?

I don't have  the same daily workout regime. No two workouts look exactly the same. The pace, reps, sets, intensity, weights, resistance, range of motion, sequences, etc., change every day.

Your greatest success as a trainer & Founder of P90X? Most difficult moment-how did you overcome and what did you learn?

My greatest success is that I'm still in the fitness game after 15 years. A lot of my peers are gone. The P90X brand is world wide and continues to grow. There wasn't one difficult moment. There were hundreds of them, and they keep coming. You work hard, fall down, get up, and keep working hard.

Your advice to an aspiring entrepreneur/athlete?

Learn as you fail. You will fail a lot, so when you do, try something new. Repeat.

How do you motivate your people?

Dash expectations, focus on showing up and being present, don't be attached to the outcome, and be patient.

Healthy - Avocado and Pellegrino. Unhealthy - Chocolate chip cookies and Dr. Pepper.

SUPERLIFE - The 5 Forces that will make you healthy, fit, and eternally awesome By Darin Olien

Role model - business and personal?

Carl Daikeler - CEO of Beachbody -- Shawna Branon (soon to be Shawna Horton) my betrothed and much better half.

Current passion?

Skiing deep fluffy pow.

Favorite travel destination?

Tokyo, Paris, Florence.

What's next for Tony Horton?

To open a private gym in a secret location, develop a fitness program for vets and wounded warriors.
